Asking for decorating advice

Hi - I am seeking advice/ suggestion on how to decorate my very barren living room. I am trying to find a way to tie all of the elements together (including the hardwood floors, sofa/ loveseat, and uniquely colored tile in the fireplace surround) without overwhelming the space. I plan to purchase a new chair, coffee table, rug, curtains etc. I am not opposed to any style although I tend to favor nature-themed styles (beachy, tropical, rustic). Most of my furniture throughout the house is dark walnut or espresso color. I would appreciate any help!

Agree with Olychick- love your colors and look forward to for sure seeing rug suggestions. Are there any other colors you prefer or dislike? and-- not sure if i am seeing the color of the sofas correctly. Is it more blue or teal?

Thank you all! The rug/ window treatments have been my biggest struggle. The room opens to the dining area as well, with a large dark table. The fabric on the sofa/ loveseat is "teal" but sometimes looks deeper blue in color. I have added a picture from the manufacturer below to display the fabric. As for colors, there is not a single color at this time I am opposed to incorporating - would like to extend my color palette a bit (sometimes get too ordinary). We do not necessarily need all of the sitting options - the white chair is really just for the dog and any guests who dare sit in it :) Welcome any additional suggestions and advice! Thanks again!

I like the color scheme in the manufacturer's picture. Chocolate, teal, bronze and beige would be very sophisticated!

Is that your front door in the photos? If not, how often is it used?

It is the back door to our patio. We use more frequently than the front door (>10x/day).

You have nice furniture to work with. It looks like the patio door is a French door with sheers over it. Can you take that off or do you need it for privacy? I'd start with a rug, then go from there.

Maybe something like this. Add tables and lamps and get rid of the fan light.

I feel a round coffee table is in order. Here's my one suggestion for one as copper compliments teal in a magical way. coffee table

All of this is really helpful - and exactly what I was needing. Mostly, I am struggling finding a good combination of rug-curtain-accents to create an inviting, casual/ comfortable look. I want to ensure that the lines are clean, that the room does not feel dark, cluttered, or busy. This can be challenging with large, boldly colored furniture. To answer a previous post: as my style goes, I gravitate toward a traditional style with rustic/tropical accents, to bring in some nature. I am wanting to keep with a cooler color scheme, however, I don't want to cause the fireplace surround to clash. Here is a ling to some of living areas I like for a better gauge: Living Room

I am really liking the addition of the tall curtains, tree, and addition of a copper-accented coffee table. Should the decorations be lighter in color?

The blue/green combination is beautiful. Get your large pieces first: rug, window treatments, coffee table, lamps before worrying about the décor it will all fall into place. The TV stand is modern and could be wider. Remove mirror from over FP it's too high.

You have a great start but needs texture which can be used in pillows, rug or draperies. I would do small benches or poufs in front of fireplace for extra seating as keeping the walkway and TV area open. Would you be opposed to painting the fireplace? A jute rug for texture and the rustic modern feel to the space. A round white modern farmhouse to contrast with the sofa ,floor and fireplace. Artwork over fireplace and etagere for balance. Simple draperies to frame windows. Measure and make sure scale is right when purchasing items. Do not see any lighting besides your ceiling fan.

I would choose cream curtains that blend with the walls for an uncluttered look, or the lightest color of the rug that you choose. The mirror over the fireplace does not have much impact. A large painting that you love should eventually go there. The rug should be one that makes you feel happy and excited, and that goes well with the couch color. I would look at hundreds of rugs on-line until it becomes clear to you what it is you really want. It can take some time but it's worth it, because this will be the linchpin of your future decorating choices, along with the couch you've already chosen.

If you are open to painting FP whitewashing it is an option to allow the color of the brick to come through yet softens the brick and ties in the tile. Poufs above and gold could also work well your blues. I would consider replacing the door sheer with a roller shade in white or bamboo look. Not sure if you need sun protection or privacy as full window coverage.

I love the fireplace, as is...it complements the floors so well and is gorgeous with your teal. I would never color that brick!

I know personally how overwhelming the choices are for rugs (and curtains). I do really like the ones havingfun posted from joss and main. Although the last one looks color wise like it would work fantastically. I feel the pattern is very 2015-20 (so it is less appealing to me if that makes sense?). I also like the ones kulm posted. I think they would work very well and not be too limiting.

I would take my inspiration from the ad photo of your sofas. The colors all look nice together and calming AND you already have a lot of the brown accent with the fireplace and floors. A lighter neutral rug with some pattern I think is the way to go. Because of your room space and furniture layout I think you must go to a round coffee table. Look at changing your TV stand or even better, can you hang the tv on the wall. I would go with natural color window treatments but not completely matching the wall, just enough contrast, substantial panels on each side, and hung high and wide so as not to cover the window. You could also add some woven wood, natural shades to the window and have this with the panels. Love the sofa color but some throw pillows would break up all of the strong color. End table(s) will be needed as well.

Love the furniture you have chosen. We have some designs of ours that you might enjoy looking at that could get you started. Note the rugs, curtains, artwork, pillows, TV console, poufs, coffee tables, etc.

For sure start with a nice big area rug, to ground the furniture, the rug should have at least one color in it almost the same as the couch etc. the rug will be your inspiration piece and then go from there.

From personal experience, I can tell you that those floor poufs can easily turn into large dog toys :( I do love the celadon green with the teal

I would suggest a feature wall to give the room a little personality, either a wallpaper or paint on your fireplace wall will help the room look less bare. The addition of another colour is good - the green suggestion is a good idea. Definitely a rug, curtains, lamps and tables - coffee table not necessarily as long as everyone seated has to an end table without having to stand up to put their drink down. Most definitely and some art to complement the look, hang it 48" on centre so that it's not to high or too low. Don't focus too much on tying in the fireplace, it's negligible. If you're going to watch tv in this room, i'd lose the big black tv and add a mirror tv above the fireplace to give a classier sitting room look. Good luck hope you have fun shopping there's so much out there that something will appeal to you, just remember not to have too many competing patterns or colours. If you're not sure if it will work for you make sure you can return it.
