Pretty start! Please post another photo taken with your back to the windows behind the sofa and facing the two chairs. I would like to see what is seen when sitting on the sofa and to get a sense of space for scale of additional seating, etc.

Just me personally, I don't like those two chairs in that space. They look like dining room chairs to me and not living room chairs. Having said that and assuming that's what you've got to work with, then moving on ... i would not do anything more matching to that couch. I, too, would like to see the view from the couch to see which way the furniture should be oriented, but without knowing that and in general I would say ... move the couch to the big wall and then work your arrangement from there. No one likes to look directly into a bright window ... keep the window to where you would look at it from a side view, not straight on. But regardless of that, because of the two different colors of upholstered furniture you already have, I would get a medium colored brown leather bench to use as further optional seating and to complete the U shape configuration. And I would lay a faux fur throw on it. Then you need a soft patterned, muted color area rug that can pull a little bit from those blue chairs. I would get matching end tables for the couch. Remove that wire piece in the back corner and find another home for that standing lamp. Then I would get a glass top coffee table. Then you need drapery panels, art work, and accessories. Do not decorate table tops with photos in frames ... honestly no one wants to look at that. Keep your personal pictures to personal spaces and use those opportunities to decorate with interesting objects.

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional, just love to window shop and get ideas on HOUZZ! Plus, I want to follow and see what the professionals can do for your beautiful space! Here's some things I think are pretty....

Rachel, if Bobs still has that sofa, I'd snap up another to face the first one. The best thing about the chairs is their colour, so you might look for that shade of blue in your rug selection.

Sofa on solid wall. Buy two more chairs. Two chairs with backs to window, table between, and two chairs, with backs toward dining room, table between.

Panels at window and a rug….no need for a huge rug…just one big enough for the area in front of sofa. 6 x 9 possibly?

Another matching floor lamp for either end of sofa. Coffee table for sofa only, as each pair of chairs has its own table.

Pottery Barn…drapes are very good…lined and heavy…just used them in a clients house and are on sale.

A great space with lots of natural light. The first thing that struck me is that you need a focal point in the room (See #8 on this page) and area rug to define the space. Focal point can be a fireplace, armoire, bookcase, or even a large painting or mirror hung over a console table or other piece of furniture. The rug should be large enough for the furniture to fit on. (See #10 on this page)

How will the area be used? Strictly for sitting and chatting or will you be adding a tv or ??? Do you need or would you like space for storage in the room? What colors are adjacent areas?

I agree the chairs (and the table between them) should be replaced but your instinct for NOT going with matching pieces from Bob's is a good one. The chairs should match each other but not the sofa. (There's more about that on the page the previous links will get you to also).

If you add a focal point to the blank wall, turn the sofa to face that and add chairs on the side facing the window and a low chaise, bench, or loveseat opposite the chairs you will have a more unified conversation area. Add a rug and coffee table, and end tables (that do not match the coffee table or even each other) with lamps. See picture - it is not to scale since I don't have any measurements for room etc, but I think you can get the idea from it.

I'm thinking the focal point should be the built ins/dining room. This room does not have a TV as it's for social conversations/entertaining.

I would get another sofa to go against the wall and maybe another across from the wall. Get a light colored rug, and a coffee table with hints of gold.

Oh! And don't forget a nice green plant to brighten it up with nature!

For those suggestions not to get a matching piece from bobs, what can I get that will pull it together? Hard for me to know what will go. Another 2 chairs was suggested. Does it need to be exact chairs? I saw the same ones in home goods in a beige, but was afraid to get in another color.

I wasn't going to bring this up, but a couple of weeks ago I ordered this on zulily thinking it will be a wonderful addition to this room.
Give it to me straight, Is this in the same category as the metal home goods piece? Please someone tell me what I want to hear..

What about this area rug?

Goodness....you are certainly testing a variety of styles. My impression is that upon entering the room the sofa on the solid wall would welcome everyone in. Art above the sofa and end tables with lamps would make a nice setting. Try your new Zulily find as a cocktail table and flank two pairs of chairs facing each other toward the center where the cocktail table will be. A dramatic large plant in the window area will be beautiful. A rug that is large enough for all of the legs of the sofa to be on and all of the cocktail table to be on will be just right. So, the focus is the sofa/seating area as you enter the room. The built ins/entry to the dining room can showcase décor that makes the entrance to the dining area delightful.

I really appreciate all this helpful feedback.
Here's what I gather from most of you;
1. Move sofa to wall
2. Replace the chairs with larger more accent chair like chairs.
3. The lamp does not belong, regardless if replaced by suggested lamps.
4. Area rug should be large (I think 9 by 12 for this room will work) I posted pic I like, but have no issue with critic.
5. I know that silver thing looks misplaced and small, would a picture above help?
6. I may never again walk into home goods or any store of its kind, unassisted.

Here's the funny thing, I actually have that of very similar area rug in 6 by 8 which is too small. I find it boring. Like that area rug that everyone has..

Have you looked at West Elm? They have some nice rugs. Home Goods also sometimes has some at great prices. Pier One too...

End tables for the sofa should be more substantial to balance it. You could choose anything for the rug, but a patterned North African rug would continue the subtle tones you've picked for the furniture. Pick art with some warmth, but keep it in the softer shades.

Stylzes2 photos have very nice layouts and ideas!
Your square ottoman can lean glam -add brushed gold or brushed silver accents and mirrors and softer tone rugs, or lean contemporary-add white lacquer, polished silver accents and a bolder carpet.
You floor lamp can work with a larger shade, see stylzes2 second photo.
Can you fill your silver display piece with large leaf real plants ? And then angle it in the back corner by the window ? ( really can't see it and its potential )
Try not to add small accent pieces until you decide on the colors in your rug , your chairs and your overall vibe.
