First time corn gardener -- pollination question

This is my first time planting corn. I only have about 18 plants and understood that I would need to pollinate by hand. I read up (and watched videos) on a bunch of different methods.

When the first silks emerged, I went outside with a paper plate and a clean makeup brush and shook the tassels onto the paper plate. Some of the loose anthers fell on the plate and there was visible pollen on the plate too. I used the brush to pick up some of the anthers and pollen and brush it on the silks. I had about 4 ears of corn at the time. I did this every day for about a week.

Since, I've had quite a few new silks emerge, but there doesn't seem to be anymore pollen left in the tassels. I've gone out at all different times, trying to shake some anthers or pollen loose, but there is nothing. I'm assuming that none of these growing cobs will have any corn on them.

Is this just how it goes, or is the wacky weather we've been having to blame?
