no.. you need not be an expert or any such thing ... how about you just resend them ... and see what happens .. hopefully good things ...

one thing i learned over the years .... is .... never complain about the work of volunteers ... unless you are willing and able to take over the work ... [not that i am suggesting you are doing that...]...

Oh Ken, I was not complaining and apologize if it sounded that way. Believe me, I understand and appreciate how much effort goes into any voluntary work. So I only was seeking information to know whether I could submit photos. I had no idea that the man who was doing this had passed away. Thanks for letting me know!!

Make sure you send the pictures via the link on the HL website. I know that after taking over from Bob Axmear after the initial updates Carol and Bill have put a lot of HL related things on the back-burner for the summer and they should get back into updating it in the fall. I myself have sent them several pictures that have not made it in as yet, it'll happen, I know.

From doing the Hosta Lists with Don Rawson I know how time consuming updating a website can be and it's all a matter of finding the time for it when you're busy living your day-to-day life.

Sounds like a good idea to resend the photos. If you didn't hear back from them, well, then who knows what happened. I know if I sent in some photos, I would want to get a response to my email one way or another. Hope you do hear from them this time around.

I never got any feedback either when I sent in pics. It is tough enough to go thru piles of photos and try to make sure they are properly identified, without adding another task. The whole library is a monumental task, and we are so very fortunate to have it as a free resource.

It did take close to a year, more for some, when my photos were posted. I wonder if they will ever remove some old pictures. Some of mine were very young and I could send newer ones next year of a more mature clump. I do like the idea of flower pictures to be included.

I also have wondered whether older pictures would be removed, especially where there are numerous photos of the same hosta. I like seeing hosta photos showing a young plant and mature ones---and everything in between! That would be great if you could send some newer more mature photos to the Hosta Library Beverly. I agree that flower photos should be included. In fact, I think that anything unique about any named hosta should be included.

I've only submitted one photo. I never got an acknowledgement, either. Just one day, I was looking at that page and it was there.

Same experience as Bkay. However it didn't take long for the individual looking after that aspect of it to post it...may have only been a matter of weeks, don't recall exactly but not too long.

Bob took care of updating the library until the day he died. What a phenomenal man to come up with the idea to consolidate all the info on hostas in one place.

Don't expect perfection from a resource that is glommed together with available online info. The data base reflects all the info gathered from sources such as catalogs and online websites. It would be an impossible task to go thru each and every hosta to make sure the photos and info are absolutely correct. Use it as a resource, and also look elsewhere (like with the originator of the selected hosta) if you want absolutely, positively, no questions asked answers. Problem is that some of those dudes are dead, so get your info from more than one source.

Geez, I go there 2 or 3 times a day looking up stuff. The folks who have volunteered to keep up the library are to be commended, Highly! If you submitted some photos, be happy when you see them...but please don't expect any acknowledgement with the volume they get. I'm sure they would be delighted to have someone volunteer to go thru the whole pile and correct any misinformation. Volunteers?

As I had said to Ken, I didn't know the library was volunteer generated. Maybe I'm naive, but I guess I thought some of the businesses on that first page were sponsoring the library or perhaps even Houzz was since the forum link takes you into their site with tons of ads. I do apologize once again. I was merely trying to determine if a person had to be a certified horticulturist or a person who understands far more than I do about the propagation of and care of hostas. I will resubmit some photos. I frequently don't see pictures of the racemes or flowers and I have focused on photos like that as I found it can help me identify an unknown plant. Thanks for commenting and I hope you you understand my comment was not meant as a criticism.

I just got an e-mail from Carol indicating they're in the process of doing additions, the "A's" would appear to have been done. She talked in terms of around 1200 new pictures being added of the coming weeks and months, they're gonna be busy beavers.....
