What about wood blinds under a beautiful fabric covered cornice board. The blinds are hidden when not in use and you can always recover your cornice board when your style changes.

Thanks Brenda. What I'm looking for is suggestions on sizing/placement for the new windows we will use in this area. The existing window will be removed and we are willing to re-wall and create new openings as needed.

In that case I'd do two tall windows centered on that wall.

Do you have a pic of the OUTSIDE of the area? I would consider the two tall windows, but I would look for a custom option with tops that follow the angle of the roof line. I would also consider a more modern option on doors than sliding glass doors...they just have such beautiful options that still allow for a view.

Sounds like you have some good ideas. I would replace the large window with double doors with a patio outside. Large doors will expand the area visually and make the outdoors part of the living area. (You may consider centering the doors on this wall.) Then put a large L shaped sectional sofa facing the corner. Be sure to make it long enough so that it floats in front of the fireplace with a short leg facing the window. This would create views out the window and faces the fireplace too (I'm assuming that you have a fireplace behind the wood). Then TV in the corner where it is. Add chair and art on the blank wall next to the window.

I like Dar Ecket's idea better than mine. You could even expand it by putting sidelites on each side of the double doors.
