Installing Miele DW on 24"

Hi, we just moved into our new house last week and a couple of days ago we got ourselves a Miele with the current promotion that should be here tomorrow. I've been reading about installing these and sure enough Miele is expecting a 23" 5/8 wide cabinet. The instructions make no mention of a shimmer, what size or what to do with standard north american 24" openings. People do seem to go about it differently. One youtube video put a 3/4" shimmer, which seems big, other people here say that you DO NOT need a shimmer (use longer screws?) which seems is a recipe for disaster. I have emailed Miele customer support but haven't heard yet.

My other issue is that the house only current has 3 wires used for most DW. Seems like Miele is ready for to go into a socket but the install guide does say it's ok to connect the wires directly. Is there a reason why I should not do this?

I am not home and can't check right now. But I recall that our Miele dishwasher has rubber gaskets all around that touch the cabinet. This provides a seal for better noise insulation. I think, but I am not 100% sure, that this gasket expands sufficiently to make the dishwasher fit the slightly wider cabinet.

I have normally seen dishwasher being plugged into an outlet instead of hardwired. That makes it much easier to pull it out, if you need to service it. It also makes it easier to disconnect, if there is some sort of malfunction.

I would try to keep this feature. Fortunately, installing a basic surface mounted mains outlet is really easy. And in many cases, it's almost as easy to install a new properly recessed outlet. So, I think that's the approach I'd take.

If this is a newly built house and ask the builder to install the outlet. If this is an older building, ask a handyman or, if you can't find one, an electrician to install the outlet for you. Should be cheap, but exact cost depends on the cost of labor in your market. As a rule of thumb, this should take on the order of 30min of work.

They give you some gaskets to fill the gaps. Attached is a Miele DW in a24" opening.

huh. I didn't get these. I just got mine at the beginning of August. They came with the dishwasher itself? What does it look like with the door closed?

I am an idiot. I just went and actually looked and they are there.

I just checked mine and found that I had used a single half-inch filler strip on the right side. The strip has the same finish as the cabinets. Choice of side or of using two smaller strips depends on how the cabinets are built and the intended finished look. The gaskets were not sufficient to fill the gap space by themselves. They shouldn't be expected to block noise if they are barely touching the surfaces. Note that the filler strip needs to be deep enough, front to back, to provide a surface for the set-back gasket to wipe when the dishwasher is in its final position.

I didn't get anything additional. You screwed the sides to the 24" entrance and it was ok? The screws don't seem too long :(
