Hi! This is plain sliced Walnut.

How do you achieve this color on walnut knowing there's a lot of variation on wood grain?.
(I'm trying to decide which wood i should put for my interior raised one panel doors and I am hesitating between walnut, birch, maple, mahogany. I eliminated mahogany because of the straight lines which I don't want. I am looking for a modern sleek look and dark exactly like this picture. My cases and frames will be white? A lot of places told me why would you buy walnut if you stain it?. Just put plain wood. I really don't know what to do and i don't want to decide in a rush. I live in Canada. Can you help me? There is a lot of personal tastes that goes into these decisions, but I can highlight some differences that might help you to make a decision. Maple & Birch are woods with small pores, which makes them ideal for painting because the texture of the finished surface ranges from minimal to not noticeable at all. On the other hand, Walnut and Oak have larger pores which will show through into the surface of the finish (with an open pore finish) giving the wood a texture. To me, this is an important part of the stained wood look. This is also the reason why I will recommend to clients they go with something other than Birch or Maple if they want a stained finish. If you're planning to go with a really dark finish, I think that this texture is even more important in making them look like real wood doors.

Thank you so much. I think I will stick to my first choice: walnut. I fin it very contemporary specially with a dark stain like this one. I just have to find now the right person for the staining and finish job. Can you tell me what I should look for to have this color finish when hiring the right company? Is it stained with spray or by hand with a cloth? Is it water or oil base stain? Thank you so much for your help!! I feel way better with my choice now.

For that specific project I don't really remember. Maybe look for a company that is familiar with stains, glazes and toners. Also make sure that they have a proper spray booth for spraying the clear top coat. Good Luck!
