Minimal damage. I only saw about five adult beetles this year, all on the tiger lilies, and I quickly killed them.

I didn't have much problem either. However, I don't have a lot of lilies any more since the damage was so bad for a while, plus the voles eat them. I may try a few more in cages.

I usually have a fair amount of foliage damaged by these beetles every year. And I end up picking them off by hand. This year, I didn't have to pick off one and I saw no damage to the foliage at all. Amazing! Loved it. Hope I get a repeat next year.

Last year my tiger lilies had almost no damage and I only saw one or two of the red beetles. This year all seemed well until about 3 days ago. My healthy, blooming tiger lilies were decimated with the speed it took Jane's hornets to build their nest. I went out to inspect the damage and found a single red beetle which I killed. I'm not convinced it was the beetles that killed my lilies. This destruction behaved much as the mildew, if that is what it was, that destroyed my poppies. I have never seen such swift destruction in my gardens ever.

Gee, so sorry to hear that Spedigrees. Have you had a lot of rain this season? The only thing I can say, is that last year, I had some Agastache Honey Bee Blue that was looking great for most of the season, very healthy and suddenly they developed some problem and had horrible foliage and color. I was tempted to just pull them all out, but they come back every year and I would have been out of them if I did. So I left them. Cut them back and kept them watered. It was late in the season, so I didn't care. This year, they all came back better than ever. Healthy, clean foliage and more than ever. Same thing happened to a patch of Hellebores the year before. That took two seasons to come back to normal, but looking healthy at the moment.

Thanks Prairiemoon. Yes it was very wet here this spring and summer. I do suspect some sort of fast acting mildew or fungus, rather than the red lily beetles, but who knows. I never pull up a perennial plant if it dies because you never know. I had alliums that bloomed profusely for a year or two, them completely disappeared for about 3 years, and this year reemerged in a sea of purple flowers. Perhaps they needed more rain, and they finally got what they needed this year.

Kitasei you are incredibly lucky to have so few of these nasty beetles, especially the Japanese beetles.

That's great about your purple alliums, imagine coming back after 3 years!

I got so fed up with the lily beetle patrol all day long and their feces-covered larvae and the plant damage, so this year I threw away all my lilies. Pulled them right out. Took too much energy and time just for a week's worth of flowers. On to more carefree plants!! This aging body needs a rest from all day bug patrol. :)

I had very few Japanese beetles this year. What a pleasure.
