Here's my thoughts, for what it's worth. I was going to number my thoughts to go along with your numbers, but it seemed too broken up, so forgive my ramblings.

The white chase moves up the wall towards where you said the barn door will hang, with the modern arc lamp coming from the corner where the chase currently sits. I think the chairs may be too much, I would remove them along with the suitcase tables, end table and the book case beside the R and D (if the dresser where the TV is currently is not necessary, removing that could go a long way toward making the space seem less cluttered. Instead I would have a modern loveseat where the chairs are currently with a coffee table and a low entertainment cabinet under a wall mounted TV that you were asking about (for your husband). I think an area rug that compliments the existing one under the bed (either color or the spiral pattern) would go nicely to pull the room together. Currently it looks very much like two separate rooms. As for the sliding doors to the patio, I agree, remove the vertical blinds and install ceiling to floor curtains, maybe a subdued spiral pattern to compliment the rugs, with separate sheers to give you light and privacy (after all, it is your bedroom).

If the dresser where the TV currently sits is not necessary, removing
that could go a long way toward making the space seem less cluttered. Or it could go under the wall mounted TV as the entertainment cabinet I mentioned above. I can't tell if it goes with make-up vanity and nightstands by the bed as the lighting seems quite different. If it does, even more reason, in my mind, to use it under the TV.

I think the cream piece is too big to be placed anywhere in the room and would remove it. I would put the T.V. on the wall that currently has the colorful art, the bookcase to the left side of it, the small suitcases w/plant on the right side, and the 2 chairs across from and facing the T.V. I would then add an area rug to define that area and make it more cozy.

Thank you all for your advice! Of course, now I have more dilemmas and questions! The biggest problem is that the only pieces I could remove would be the bookshelf and the suitcases. We downsized and really like the pieces we have - just can't make them work! The white chaise is really big - 6' long and 3' 5" across. It's super comfy and my favorite reading spot and I'm thinking it's too big to sit in front of the bed? So - if I move the bookshelf out, take out the suitcases, move the dresser to the current bookcase/chaise wall to use under the t.v., slide the chaise to the wall to the right - where do I put the chairs? If I kept them pretty much where they are now they would face the t.v./dresser and the chaise would be to their side, a rug would anchor the space and once I have curtains up, that would help as well -? Is it a mess or okay? Is it ridiculous to try to make the chairs and the chaise work together?

Do you actually sit up in this bedroom to watch TV? Or more relax in chaise and read?

Could your bed be turned and put on the other wall facing the slider and outside wall...than put chaise on that outside wall across from bed with a floor lamp...than only use the two chairs and two ottomans in front of the TV..yes you need another large rug to ground that other TV area.

The chairs are just to big and chunky in your space. How about just the chaise and move the vanity into that area too? Then it becomes a dressing/reading area instead of a family room in your master. Maybe you can put the suitcase coffee table at the foot of the bed and use a bench stool for the vanity in the sitting area. There is just way too much furniture there now and you will probably never use most of it.

I'm not sure about turning the bed around, mainly because my husband would be on the inner side and I'm thinking he won't be thrilled with that! And yes, agreed, too much furniture. We rarely watch t.v. in bed, but my husband will occasionally watch sitting in one of the chairs. I tend to use the chaise for reading. I don't have another place for the chairs and they're great chairs - very comfortable and I'm not ready to get rid of them. The two benches/ottomans that are in front of the bed now are likely too high to use with the chairs. The bookcase and suitcases can and will leave and I think that will help a lot. The only other thing I can think of is to move the chairs to my living room but I would have to move one of the loveseats into the bedroom. And I'm not sure if that would solve the problem. The biggest issue, really, is that our furniture was designed and bought for our last house and we're trying to make it work in this one, in what is a much smaller space. Sigh.

With such a big room? Is it possible to divide up the space and would this idea help?

To bad I think actually if you turned the bed and put the TV on that wall opposite of the bed above the dresser...keep stools at end of bed..

put chaise on wall where the bookcase is now and add a big rug with the two chairs facing chaise.....with a floor lamp next to chaise and a round modern coffee table between the chaise and the chairs...very pretty sitting and relaxing area...add a big floor mirror for use when getting dressed.

Since you enjoy reading in/on the chaise, I would put it in a separate reading corner with a small table to hold a few books and your cup-of-whatever and a floor lamp to give you good light. A 5'x8' rug could define that area.
The chairs, ottomans and tv can be arranged in a tv-only zone. I would purchase a matching rug large enough for the chairs and ottomans and a small table, maybe 8'x10'.

If you stack the three suitcases, will they arrive at mattress top height? Use those on the side of the bed where the person who least needs access to drawers sleeps. You can eliminate the larger trunk. Your bedside lamps are too skinny, short and fou-fou for the contemporary bed. With chunky or boxy bedside chests, the lamps need to be more chunky with a heavier profile. If tables/chests properly arrive at mattress top height, then the overall height of both lamp and table should reach 58-64" above the floor. A closer look at the two chests would generate more suggestions about what to do with them. IMO, the round mirror with the dresser is in too great a contrast with the angular contemporary headboard. The same can be said for the curved chaise. the two benches at the end of the bed fall into another era design wise and should be eliminated. The table between the two chairs is too low. To be useful and balanced tables should arrive 1" above or below seating arms. Try moving the rug to the seating area and getting a smaller one for the bed. It doesn't need to extend so far out from the sides or bottom of the bed as yours does.

So, if you've followed me, you should only have the 2 chairs, 3 suitcases, a lamp, rug, TV and credenza, and bookcase in the seating area. If leaving the TV where it is, then turn the chairs to face it, add a table between them and the floor lamp beside one of them. They'll have the horizontal art behind them, and if the suitcases don't work with the bed, try them between the two chairs or as a coffee table in front of them. Put your plants on the floor by the stationary side of the sliders. Flank sliders with panels and use sheers between them. I agree with a frosted glass door for the bath, although you can mount it like a barn slider.

Try your chaise with other more curvy pieces near a window in a feminine bedroom. You might move the dresser and round mirror there too. For this bedroom you need a mirror that "mirrors" your headboard. This one is a "leaner" but could be modified to hang.

Center the bookcase on its wall, remove the RD and set the little collectible TV on the top shelf so it covers the electrical installation.

I think HIWE nailed it with her first comments. Move the chaise to the end of the bed. It is 6' long and a king size bed is 6'+ wide so it would fit very nicely. Then make the other end of the room your "sitting/TV" area. Make the suitcases a "console" under the TV and arrangement them stacked appropriately. Remove the metal and glass étagère and use it elsewhere or gift it and donate it. Chairs and round table stay as is. Remove and replace vertical binds. Use sliding wide panels. They come in a variety of looks. Absolutely no barn door. Not appropriate, as HIWE mentioned, on the way out. Hope this reinforces some idea already posted and please just move the Chaise to the end of the bed and find a cute small gold and glass table to set beside it to set your book down on and coffee or whatever!

Start with moving the chaise. If you haven't found the wonder items called "sliders" they make moving furniture a breeze and you can do it yourself. The come in packages that have round disks for both wood floors and carpet. You can move that chaise ASAP! haha! Start with that. It is the elephant in the room making everything else not work. Trust me on this. Enjoy!

dg24, yes I agree with your earlier mention that the chaise is too big to be well placed at the foot of the bed.

Won't hurt to try it!..you have a big space and it could really be that wow factor!

I agree the first 2 look great (the 3rd one looks a little tall). I think if her chaise were also a streamlined assymetrical vs. a bulkier boat style, it would work better at the foot of the bed but, yes, it doesn't hurt to try since it's just a matter of opinion.

Just my thoughts, don't take anything personally. And I must comment on the furniture sliders, they have made my life so much easier. I use them ALL the time and I can now move things by myself easily.

The sitting area feels extremely busy and clunky. Think about your room as an oasis, calming, open, spacious.

I had a sitting area in a previous house we designed and we kept it simple. We are not "TV in the bedroom" people so that was not in the mix. A nice reading nook, along the wall: two chairs with a table and lamp between them in a corner was all we had. It kept the room open having them along the wall.

Take everything out and visually imagine the space you want. Put back what you truly use. If it doesn't work, don't use it. If I cannot get something to work that we used in a previous house, I don't keep it. I would just say, keep the space plain and simple. It's not the same as a living room where multiple people need space. I just would keep seating along the wall for now and not in the middle of the floor. Open up your room and make it feel clean, airy, and spacious.

Wow - thank you all for such great advice! I moved things around (and I have those sliders and yes they are fabulous!). The luggage is all out - so much better! (anyone interested in buying a set of vintage Hartmann Skymate???) Moved the dresser and the t.v. to the wall where the bookshelf was, slid the chaise to the right, so it's against the wall, instead of angled. The chairs are basically where they were but I put a different table between them, it's higher and looks great. The bookshelf, for now, is to the right of the chaise, just before the opening into the bathroom. I couldn't make it work anywhere else and I'm not willing to get rid of it because it will work in my husband's office as soon as I can get him to agree to re-do it! My husband also collects mid-Century and vintage t.v.'s, phonographs, radios, etc. and so our house has always been a mixture modern + different eras. I love the vintage dressing table with the round mirror - it used to live in my previous bathroom which was much larger than my current one. I couldn't find it a home here but again, I'm not willing to part with it and since I don't know how long we'll be in this house, I'm going to live with it where it is. The two benches at the end of the bed were in a different room - they're also vintage re-do's that I'm debating having painted white but that's another debate all together!- and I have a modern, white with brushed steel trim, streamlined rectangular bench that is currently needed in the foyer until I find what I want to replace it. So the benches are there as placeholders because our dogs love to lie on them!

Anyway, the room looks so much better and feels so much more open! I still need to find a rug for the sitting area, get the curtains/sheers ordered and find something to use as either an ottoman for the chairs or a coffee table. But - thank you all so much - I will keep all of your ideas in mind because chances are good that I will need or want to move things around again :)
