Maxxmar Mandalay Dual Shades provide privacy, even at night when the lights are on inside the space. The fabrics, however, are light filtering, so they will not black out a room. If blacking out the space is desired, then I would recommend adding the optional Opera shade.

The four middle shades along the back wall were motorized and are operated via a remote control, while the remaining shades are operated manually via a chain. I cannot speak on behalf of the client regarding the operation of the motorized shades, but given that I have not heard of any concerns from the client, I can only assume that the shades are functioning normally. The same is true of the chain-operated shades.

Thanks for the reply. If I may ask two follow up questions... I'm not necessarily looking for blackout per se, but wondered that it might be helpful for privacy since the Monte Carlo pattern has thin sheer lines within the "solid" part of the shade. Does it also help during winter as window areas tend to be cooler? Thank you!

Yes, the Monte Carlo pattern does have thin sheer lines which have a height of about 2 mm, so if you want absolute privacy, then the blackout Opera shade would be helpful, but in my opinion, unnecessary. The only way someone from the outside would be able to see in would be by sticking his or her nose right up to your window.

Any extra layer will help with insulation, so yes, the Opera shade will help in the winter, but if insulation is the primary concern with your windows, cellular shades or shutters are a much better choice.
