We got home from our Alaska trip yesterday around 2 pm, after 15 hours of travel! DFIL came down with a heavy cold toward the end of the cruise, then DSisIL caught it, then DH, then DBiL. Niece and I thought we were going to luck out, since we were rooming together on the land portion, but this morning I woke up with a sore throat. :( Yes, it was good to not be sick on vacation, but I have to go to a rehearsal tonight and tomorrow night, and work tomorrow, so I really don't want to be sick now!

I need to do laundry and go to the grocery store, so no sewing for me, unless it's a bit of hand work.

Continuing work on the little girls' quilts. The block is a pinwheel variation, so four quadrants, four pieces in each, with sqauring up and sliver trimming at two points in each. Kind of finicky work. 30 blocks done and many more to go.

Hurricane Harvey is here. Unbelievable rain and flooding in Houston. We're staying home and staying off the streets. Our home is safe and not likely to flood but we're watching a bayou nearby as it rises.

What does a quilter do when she's stuck at home (but has power)? She quilts, of course. I'm working on some UFOs. Too wired to be working on my new project. Pics coming shortly.

Take care, Vasu. I'm so sorry that your city is being devastated. I imagine it will be quite a while before things are back to normal. Donna, your trip sounded great. Too bad you all came home sick. That's no fun at all.

I'm working on my Two Step quilt top. Just need to finish the borders and then I can tuck it away to be quilted at a later date. I hope to get a few more Baptist fan rows quilted on my Arcadia quilt. What a tedious job! But I really like the results. One of my favorite sisters-in-law was here for dinner the other night. I told her to choose one of my quilts if she wanted one. She's very particular about her home decor and colors, so I didn't know if she would really want one of my quilts. She fell in love with Arcadia which is made of Asian fabrics in greens, golds, coppery-browns, orange and yellow. So now I have some motivation to get it finished. It's so much fun when someone loves one of your quilts.

I pulled out about 40 varied blocks to see what they might become - laid them out, took a picture, pondered, then stacked them and put them aside - again! Just can't get enthused about a particular project right now. I think my creativity has taken a vacation. Living in Central TX about 150 mi. N of Houston - Hurricane Harvey has created some distraction. Although we don't live in its direct path - but we are within the rain/wind bands of the leftovers. No problems and no flooding in our area - just rain and some wind. My heart and prayers go out for all those that are dealing with the storm and all its aftermath.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We are safe and dry so far but most of my city and so many friends are affected. We we can't even go to help them because the roads are closed. Feeling helpless and frustrated.

To to take my mind off the devastating storm, I worked on two UFOs. One finished the other still unfinished.

A wonky lone star wall hanging I started last year. Quilted and bound yesterday. I also added a nice hanging sleeve in the back.

Another scrappy lone star, also started last year. I'm planning on adding some B&W blocks around and make it into a twin quilt. This will likely be a gift for a recent grad - a friend's son - a very nice young man I've known since he was a baby.
