The quilts I am making for the GGDs is a pinwheel variation. Making the ponwheels in all the primary colours would work and be an easy pattern.

Might be fun if you took them to the fabric store and let them choose. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll pick a panel that's a quick easy quilt. So many wonderful choices out there and you know they'll love whatever you feel like making.

If I were making two twin bed boy's quilts who will be sharing the same bedroom, I think I would make 2 different designs using the same fabrics. Example: a rail fence quilt and a flying geese quilt, both using soldier blues, brick reds, taupes, medium browns, creams, and unbleached muslin. The Two-Step top from the Missouri Star Company would look nice in these colors also. I have made the Bear Paw design for a boy too.

There are a million designs to choose from. How exciting! If you are making twin size quilts, the boys can use them well into their teenage years. I suggest you make it in colors that will work even when they are teenagers and then you make them another quilt when they go away to college!

If using primary colors, I'd pick one or two and pick different shades within the same colors. I love med and dark blues with a white background or blues with browns with white background.

I second the idea of making two different patterns in the same colors. I would die of boredom making two identical quilts. Rail fence is a quick and easy pattern to consider.

Same fabrics different designs...have you made a decision? Love to hear what direction you decided to go... no matter have fun!

Thanks for all the ideas! I'm still pondering which way to go. I have decided that I will piece their names with letters from the Jaybird pattern, Alphabet Soup. When asked what colors they wanted they both said, "All of them". Their mom said she thinks that means scrappy! lol
