Lamp design question

I have this space that desperately needs some light. Because my home is one big open space and the dining table is right behind the right chair I do not want something that will take up much floor space. However, I need light! I had an idea to hang something long and cylindrical from the beam. I think anything hanging should be shaded so the light would diffuse itself around that area. I love the look of bare Edison bulbs but would that light be too "hot" for this space? Any suggestions/opinions are appreciated. Thank you.

I love the bare bulb look, until its shining in my eyes. Here's a few suggestions from pb teen and pottery barn kids. The prices are so much better than some of the lighting sites I've seen for similar looks. The first 3 are from pb teen; industrial cage pendant, Bradley funnel pendant, faceted Capiz pendant
The last is from pottery barn kids; depot ceiling lamp. I used the last one in my barn and in a converted smokehouse.

The Edison style bulbs do not put out much light. The only reason they are allowed to be manufactured and sold is that they are considered "decorative", like Christmas tree lights, not actual lighting. Consider track or cable fixtures with mini LED bulbs to provide focused pools of light throughout the living space.

Wow, love the rest of the space:-) Are you thinking of mounting a light fixture on the vertical beam in between the leather chairs? Or do you want to hang a pendant (or multiple pendants) on the horizontal beam near the ceiling?

Just thinking out loud...wonder how it would look to attach a light fixture to the upright beam in back of the stump table? Maybe two fixtures...one on each diagonal side...

Consider this fixture from Restoration Hardware. It can be raised and lowered and moved side to side for flexibility which is a plus in an open space. The lights are directed downward but with a warm glow from the glass shades. They would not be glaring since the wattage for each light is 40 watts, just enough to provide comfortable light for eating.

Love this place. Looks like you have some lights up on the beams already, so putting something additional up there should be pretty straightforward. An alternative would be a double table lamp if both chairs are occupied at the same time.

Yes, I have considered placing lights on the upright beam. I think I would ultimately like something hanging, from either cross beam or upright. Not sure a sconce would throw off enough light. Thanks for all the suggestions!
