What color will the lights be adjacent to the door? Something a bit larger so they aren't lost and illuminate the front nicely for lights?

I'd tie it in with the tone of the lights.

The large space on the left of your door makes the door and trim look smaller than it probably is. As above, larger lights on both sides would help. Also increasing the trim around the door would make the door a better focal point. Also what about an address plaque or number plaque on the right side to balance out the left side.

I know this is beyond your question. But could you add something to your front landscaping that would minimize the blank space next to your door. Perhaps a a small tree or tall shrub or trellis for a climbing rose or vine. You already have lovely shrubs in the front. Could you add to them on the left with a taller bush?

We have a 5ft light post near to where I am standing, the post is black and the light is black and similar in style to the one next to the door. We have large ornamental grasses that have since grown back, that flank either side of the landing. The grew back a little slower this year as we dug them up to divided them. They get huge and I this is the 2nd time we divided them into 8 clusters in the past 8 years.

Porter found the door picture above in another post, where I was looking for a new door for our house. Then some other people got interested into a portico, which is now turning into a porch that might be about 11x7.

The door to my home is the same style, I used antique pewter for all my door hardware and love it. My other exterior light fixtures are black.
