Need Quick Opinion on Prep Sink Orientation

So I'm getting everything ready for our slab install next weekend.

The fit is tight with the support for the counter brackets (not yet installed) but my question is should I install the ledge on the left or the right?

Im left handed but I use my knives with my right, haha.

Heres another picture so you can see the work triangle.

Hmm any opinions? Or prevailing wisdom ?

I always want some sort of counter/work space on both sides of my sink, so I would install the ledge on the left.

On the left too although I am right handed. I think it could be landing space for items coming out of the fridge too.

Dang it. lol that's what feels correct to me too. Going to wait for husbands opinion. Guess I'm going to have an extra hole in my sink base

If you have the sink on the left (ledge on the right), then the sink is accessible from 2 positions (opposite stove and opposite fridge) meaning that if 2 people are working in the space they both have access to running water. That's how I have my prep sink positioned and I like it.

Thanks Joseph, that's exactly the plan! I was puzzling about putting blocking in because of the depth difference, thanks for the validation of my engineering skills lol.

I think the ledge on the left like others have suggested.

If 2 people are working - one at stove and one at sink - will they get in each others way? If the sink goes on the left, less chance of bumping each other, specially if the cook opens the oven doors.

Since you don't have a cabinet to the left of the sink... I'd put the ledge on left. Why?

    (1) Landing space for the refrigerator on the island for prepping

    (2) You really should have landing space on both sides of the sink, if at all possible.

    (3) Minimize splashing and flooding the floor on the left

How much workspace will you have on the right? It looks like plenty, but I thought I'd ask.

Chipsa there's another sink in the opposite corner. And my husband agrees with you, sink on the left, although he also agrees with all the experts that there should be a landing space on the left.

Buehl, there's almost 48" to the right, that was the trade off.

hubby weighed in and despite the lack of a landing space, he thinks basin on the left configuration as it leads to a more logical wash prep cook flow.

What I'm thinking I may do is see if I can make or have someone else make a larger custom cutting board that will live on the basin side and act as a defacto landing zone that I can slide over or use when needed (or put away). I know using the ledge as a landing space would have annoyed me as it's not level.

I'm think a custom cutting board might be a good compromise since hubby wants to leave it with the basin oriented on the left --this also simplifies the clearance of the faucet and island supports which would have been more challenges with it oriented the other way.

Thanks for all the input! You guys are the best : )

So you'll be bringing your food stuff to the prep sink, putting it on the counter to the right to wash, wash it and then put it back on the counter to the right?

    1. There's counter space behind the sink 25" depth

    2. I generally only wash produce from the garden and mushrooms and if it's coming in from the garden there's going to be way too much to perch on a tiny landing spot anyway

    Im not a prewasher

But thanks for the extra input. I know how passionate everyone is about making sure our kitchen designs are optimal.

But once the hubby weighs in (which he rarely does) that's the deciding factor.

i wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any signicant factors in my decision and I appreciate everyone's input!
