How to update coffee table

I inherited a coffee table/side table set.

From the seventies in great condition. Stamped made in Denmark.

The issue is have is the top has Inlayed tiles which I hate. The pieces are teak and super well made I just don't like the tiles. I thought about painting just the tile, or finding something to set on top of the table so I don't damage the table but covers the tile. I don't want to paint the whole piece as it might devalue it? ♀️

What do you think?

find a piece of marble and cut it to the same size as the tile square, and set it over the top.

if you don't like it, then sell it and get something you do like. painting over the tile on this vintage table will ruin it, and it won't look better. put a few trivets on it and cover the middle w/potted plants.

Cool table! Pls don't ever paint it. Maybe get a dark piece of glass made for it. Use little rubber feet to float the glass on top.

As it is inherited, selling is not an option.

Cut glass is a cool option!

I'm on a super tight budget, so I'm unsure what the cost of round cut glass would be?

I don't want to paint it, but I'm so tired of the brown tile. And as it was my partners grandmothers he doesn't want to sell.

He doesn't want to sell it but he is okay with painting over the tiles?

You could probably have the area with the tiles cut out and do something interesting with inlaid wood or a contrasting wood and have it inserted there.

or just cut a square of material to fit, and attach it lightly, and then get a piece of glass to go over. glass shouldn't cost a ton, doesn't have to be heavy since it's supported.

I love the idea of marble!

24" x 24" I wonder if I could get a single tile in those dimensions and not worry about getting it cut.

check online for some marble trivets, or try marble cutting boards at BB&B or something similar. if you do have to cut it, a tile saw would work very well. it's not a big deal to do.

How about a circular pice of marble to cover the whole top? Then again, I don't know if it can be cut that way.
