Congratulations. I'm always happy when an African violet decides to bloom. I have a few of them and I do pretty well with them. I do have the occasional casualty. But most of mine bloom.

I have a bunch of other houseplants and quite a few indoor/outdoor plants. Those who come in for the winter and go outside for the summer. I guess I'm most pleased by either a tropical hibiscus bloom in the dead of winter or when my poinsettia actually re-reds near Christmastime.

I do houseplants! When I lived in London we lived a block and a half away from a flower market and you could always get great deals near closing time. There i had multiple orchid plants that bloomed continuously for two years straight. Upon moving back to Colorado I struggled to get my orchids to rebloom at all, but we have a window seat in our current house that they like. They get direct sunlight but the windows have some sort of coating on them that reduces the glare and the orchids love it. They don't bloom continuously, but each plant does several times per year so I've usually got one or two going. If I must them, or put them on top of a bowl of river stones with water at the bottom (to increase the humidity without giving them wet feet) they are even happier.

My grandma used to keep poinsettias and get them to rebloom in time for Christmas... I've never tried it but I hear it is hard!

Faith, orchids are another thing that seems hard to get to bloom - but it sounds like you've got them figured out pretty well!

In addition to my two violets I have a Thanksgiving cactus and an aloe, both of which are pretty self sufficient. I took care of my roommate's plants over the summer - one of which was a plumeria, which I'd never even seen before! That was a learning experience for sure!
