This is the Gray Subway we plan on going with. We wanted to use white grout as it will make the backsplash pop.

The name of the granite is Delicatus White. It's from the white ice family.

Sorry - looks like there are two gray tiles on that. It's the tile on the bottom of the pic that we plan on using.

Have you placed a sample of the tile up against the granite? Agree, white grout might not be the best choice.

Can you zoom in on this pic - there are tiles under the window - we got a cloud glass tile and a Gray Subway tile. The Gray Subway is on the left of the sink. Not sure if you guys can see that close.

If not white grout lines - then what will you suggest ?

I have to ask why, in the last pic next to fridge, your countertop was cut w/such a large overhang?? that makes the top cabinet look unbalance. did you do it like that for the trashcan?? I would promptly get that piece re-cut for a proper fit.

sorry. I do not care for those gray tiles w/your cabinets. (can't really see your countertop. the one pic has too much yellow from the lighting) grab a pic of your countertop w/natural light or a flash. And no white grout. you don't have a bright white stone. an off white or a warm gray will work better.

the warm cab tones just don't jive w/that particular gray. Have you looked at any other tiles or colors?

think about having to cut those large tiles around the window. you don't want slivers.

Here some other colors/choices. Perhaps show these to your friends and see if these are any better than the subway choices

I love the frosted glass tile color w/your cabs/counter. It's a warm sand color and lends more of a contemporary vibe. You can set the tiles in a stack pattern rather than subway. These are 2x8, a good size that will work around your window. (Your friends are telling you no subway tile because they're prob sick of seeing it in every kitchen that gets done nowadays. I have to agree) The tile on the right is an off white quartz w/mirror rings (tilebar.com)

keeping w/the more modern vibe, white chevron in thassos marble and a carbon gray ceramic in chevron (modwalls). I like the carbon color. if you have under cab lighting, this isn't going to be an issue. you have huge window that gives you tons of light in here.

Subway tile is fine, not sure why your friends don't like it, but too each his own. It's a classic and there are a lot of variations that can make it look quite updated and modern as well. I agree with what others are saying. At least from the pictures we are seeing, your granite looks fairly golden (warm) and the gray on those tiles look very cool, too cool to coordinate well. You will need to find a gray tile that is a warm gray (greige) or even move towards an actual beige tile. Or, if you do want to ditch subway tiles altogether and go for a very modern look, you could consider back-painted glass with a greige paint color to get a perfect match.

So subway tiles are merely rectangles in various sizes. What are they suggesting as an alternative? Squares? Arabesques? Mosaics? Penny rounds? Sometimes you need to ignore all the unsolicited advice and rely on one person to help you choose, perhaps a designer or ONE trusted friend.

As far as color is concerned, it is really difficult for anyone to "see" your space on a computer. The colors vary wildly and the only way to really select a color is to see it in your room with your materials and your lighting, during the day and evening. You could be very disappointed if you rely on suggestions from online contributors.

The grout should be gray to match the gray tile. The counter top is your investment to show off, not the backsplash. Is there gray in the counter top? Match the color of the subway tile to that.

Agree with Beth, the gray doesn't go. The counters are not showing up well in any of the photos. I personally don't see any white in them yet again, don't have a photo actually showing it well from the posts.

What they keep telling me is that Backsplash is like a tie and it can really make or break your look. They are telling me to give it a pop...add color.

So I am open to suggestions. Perhaps their issue isn't the subway tile - maybe it's the color of the tile.

Which judging from your responses is the wrong color choice.

judging by your little swatch of paint it is more taupe in tone than a gray and may help you decide better by going that direction, but lighter in tone. I don't see any white in the tile?? Three of the photos show a warm counter and the last posted photo when different backsplash tiles are put with it they don't go with it vs. the other three they work better so very hard to tell the true color.

We saw this glass tile and it looks great besides the countertop. What are your thoughts on this?

if you like it, then that's all that matters! Maybe it will look better on the walls.

I like the glass tile and the larger subway tile but I would match the grout to your tile so you don't have the contrast. I think that would be too much with the granite. Does the granite have white or off white in it? What is the name of the granite?

Can you post of a pic with it up on the wall? I think it's catching the light in a different way horizontal like that instead of vertical like it would be installed.
