flooring desicion

Hello all!

I can't decided what flooring to put in our study and bedroom. We have 3 heavy dogs. one who is elderly and may have an accident or get sick once in a while. We just ripped out our ruined hardwood floors and installed porcelain tile. I absolutely love it! So should I just tile the remaining 2 rooms to create a seamless look? It would be the most expensive option and I'm not sure about putting it in the bedroom, plus too much of a good thing? We are considering Pergo outlast, Aquagard, and a vinyl product in wood plank look. I have read good and bad things about all of these products so very confusing! Included some pictures in case anyone has any ideas of what would look good with our modern going industrialish design :)

wow thanks Beth. Love the first 2. Do you know what products they are? Or where the pics came from?

I'm guessing the dogs are in the bedroom and study, so no carpet. I love the look of wood so the grey bamboo might be my choice. The style in the fourth picture that Beth put up looks really pretty (and manly), and gives it variety with the different size "planks". If you don't want to matchy, matchy. I would pick that one (my preference). Beth, is that one bamboo also?

Finish it off with matching tile. The one you chose looks great. Or you can stockpile enough tile to finish the two rooms later on.

Oh, I forgot my other question Indahowz, are you trying to save money by not using the same tile for the rest of the house?

We live in Michigan so im not sure how tiling entire house will go over in winter. Also cost is a factor. yes you are right NO CARPET. That's what we have now and I hate it! our dog got sick in the bedroom and it was terrible. /we cleaned it up thoroughly as possible, but i am just horrified at what may be lurking underneath....

indahowz,,,the first one is Embleton-beach house. the 2nd pic is Cali Bamboo-Eclipse fossilized. This stuff is super, super hard. should stand up to the dogs w/no problems.

this company has many others to choose from.

do your research on different companies. you don't want the non-green type, cheap bamboo. nasty chemicals. For instance, I wouldn't trust Lumber Liquidators.

jo, sorry,,i don't have any info on that 4th one. it was a random mix of gray ceramic wood look tiles.

I did consider bamboo before, but decided against it bc i thought it was constructed similar to laminate, if you get it wet, it will swell and you are pretty much screwed. Granted, i'm not putting in kitchen or near outside door, but am concerned about the occasional accident. Do you know if this stuff is water resistant?

no, that's false. It acts just like a hardwood. if you get water on it, treat it just like you wood regular wood flooring. These are prefinished so the water isn't going to 'soak in'. It will be fine for the occasional accident.

here is the one you liked. It's actually pet friendly. read up on it

I like bamboo and it has a very hard surface, so I checked out the link Beth left. The company and products look really good. I'm not certain if you want to spend $4.99 a foot since you are looking at vinyl or the Prego Outlast at about half that price. On the Cali Bamboo web site, they advertise 100% waterproof vinyl but, they don't give a price. You have to ask them for an estimate, which makes me think it's more expensive. Probably because it is constructed better than other vinyl. If you want to check out their light gray wood grain, very similar color to your tile, here's one more link for you. It's called White Aspen.

yes, Cali bamboo is a bit more, but they guarantee no harmful chemicals, VOS's, no formaldehyde, etc. they also offer a 50 year warranty? Try getting all of that with Lumber Liquidators 2.50 a sq foot flooring. $5 a sq ft isn't that expensive. Quality wood flooring is in the $7-$15 sq ft range. Luckily, your bedrooms are smaller areas so spending a bit more than average to get quality products is worth it. Especially if you plan to be in the house awhile.

To Beth. Just wanted to make sure you know there is no disrespect in any of my comments regarding yours. Just trying to get more of feel for Idahowz and her needs. $5 a sq ft is definitely a good price. Flooring can be very expensive and this company looks to have high-quality products. I come from the cheap seats when it comes to finances, having a shoe string budget with expensive taste! Ha!

Jo, no, not at all. lol. She was commenting that the tile work was going to be expensive and before committing to that, wondered if there was anything else she could do. She didn't say she was looking for a budget option, so that's why I posted that. $5 is actually a really good price for that quality! I can budget shop with the best of them, but I will not settle for cheap or potentially dangerous products! "you get what you pay for" is the honest truth.

wow thanks for all the great input! I talked to a rep from cali and he is sending me samples of bamboo and vinyl Vinyl is on sale. the bamboo I like is actually 5.29 sq ft. I am trying to keep costs down since we spent so much on the tile already. at same token I don't want something that looks cheap or is toxic either.
