I appreciate the feedback. I like that door. What about a door w/ 3/4 glass like this? I like this door specifically from Masonite(color - black walnut, glass - croxley, caming - antique black).

Is that a white storm door? If so, I would remove it as the stark white is breaking up the entry in an unappealing way. Or paint it the same blue-grey as the door.

I see a lot of doors like yours where the door and sidelights come as a single framed unit. If you want a particular glass or molding style, it's best if these details match between the door and sidelights. If you decide to replace the door and sidelights together, it's possible that it may be no more work than replacing the whole door unit for a set of double doors.

My neighborhood is full of those big radius windows. IMO they look best with double doors.

Also get bigger lights to flank the entry.

Simstress, thanks for your valuable feedback. Yes, that's an ugly, cheap storm door that has been there since I bought my house 6yrs ago from the previous homeowners. Rather than replace/remove, I've just dealt with it for the time being knowing I would soon be ridding of it when I replace my entry door.

My 2 biggest concerns with a double door entry, would be a 1.) I can only install a 60" double door, which leaves me w/2-30" doors. Now while I don't use my front entrance as a primary entry to the home, I fear that one of two 30" single functioning doors for guests to enter in would be rather narrow, compared to the 36" wide single door I currently have w/sidelights. I also feel like 30" doors might look squished. Unfortunately, my rough opening if I get rid of the sidelights is only about 64-65." 2.) I don't have an overhang at all and a lot of double door scenarios I've seen in other homes have an overhang, or have a storm door. I know storm doors are hard to come by for double entry doors and I wouldn't want to cover them up at all given how distracting/unappealing they would be.

If I stay with the single entry door, I will definitely be replacing the sidelights to match. No doubt about that. But I question if I should install a full view storm door since I don't have an overhang. Don't I want to protect my investment? Yes, I know it might not be as esthetically pleasing. My house faces north, so I'm not concerned about sunlight so much. But the front of my house is highly exposed to rainfall during a storm. I know if I decide to install a storm door, I will not be installing a built-in screen storm door because it has the bar that goes across in the middle. And that would significantly interfere with any decorative glass.

I'm disturbed by the huge Palladian window that's not connected to anything down below. I'd at least make the door casing white.

Agree with groveraxle. Note how that broadens the door so it looks like it can support that huge window above it? You could also make the sidelights all white and just have a color on the door, so it's the star of the show.

Absolutely love what you've done, groveraxle! Ive kept this 9-lite window pane in the back of my head, too. However, how do I add privacy without curtain/blinds or frosted glass? The main stairwell to go upstairs in right in front of the door when you walk in....so it would be wide open thru the big window above and the 9 window lites in the door....

Hi, Brian. I wasn't so much concerned with the door style or the glass when I Photoshopped your door as with getting a continuous white line so it connected with the window above. I personally don't like blinds or shades on doors, so I would go with rain glass or seeded glass or... There are a million types of translucent glass. You can see them at any local glass shop.

It is interesting to note the large Palladian window looks out of scale to the door and sidelights below. I would blow out the current door/sidelights and make the new door/sidelights follow the look of the window above. This will be a lot of glass but will blend better with the window above. Don't try to do this at Lowe's or Home Depot, you will need a good contractor and quality door company to work with. Good luck with this project!

That's the thing about double front doors. You only open both when you're moving in big furniture. 30" door isn't very big. I'd want a shorter upper window to add a covered entry.

Next year, I am considering window replacement throughout my home. One thought I've had with the large Palladian style window above the front entry door, is to replace it as a 2-part window. At a minimum, If not replacing this window, depending on cost, I will paint the pane inserts white (they are currently oak, matching the interior stain and are the removable type).

With window replacement in mind, I've thought about changing to a dark bronze window frame, which would coincide better if I were to install a dark colored fiberglass door. I also am not stuck on the blu-ish grayish color scheme. I'm pretty open minded and willing to consider something new. Any suggestions here?

I wonder if the look of your home may be helped with the addition of a portico of some sort. This would definitely be something you would want to work with an architect on. Maybe just freshen the look of your door with paint until you're ready to take on this bigger project that will address the proportion problem?

Have you thought about removing your Palladian window inserts? We have a very similar situation. We removed our inserts to clean and the window. We have decided to leave it out as we like this "new" look for the house. We are also door shopping. It is very hard to find the glass that we like that will go with a quality door. Good luck to you!
