Hi Amy Citroholic lol love it sign me up . Amy that list of tree's you picked up this year took me many yrs of hunting going from nursery to nursery and you did it in one year you very very lucky girl . Oh Amy that was a major major score Shiranui and the Suger Belle congrats . You ask if my wish list was complete lol that Sugar Belle Oh that Sugar Belle sounds so tempting I am hoping after a few head bangs on a wall that thought will go away .

Oh Brian, not that I want to push you on the road of decadence but I already try this trick and it didn t help. At the beginninf of summer I restrained myself from buying the xie shan satsuma and now I am feel with such regret because it s sold out! It s pure agony my friend!

Laura you don't want to know lol . It's Florida's new best mandarin looks similar to a Minneola but sweeter . Its pretty disease resistant especially against citrus greening. It has not been out to long .

Hi Amy lol the agony started when you mentioned Perry had the Suger Belle it hurts . I keep telling myself I already have the best my Shiranui this helps for about a minute. Amy here is a pic of my Shiranui.

It's addicting just need to add a Valencia mango, 2 Barbados cherries, persimmon, and passion vine. Too many projects and never home.

You guys are so funny:)) Very good lists, by the way! I have a question: how long does a citrus tree live in a container in zone 6a, given the fact that it is properly looked after, up potting, root pruning and everything?

Brian : what a beautiful dekopon!!!! And with some fruits turning orange!!! Now, one of the big challenge is knowing when to pick them! Will you try to cure some of the fruits like the Japanese?

Sunshine : I am not sure about the longevity of our citrus here. Maybe, Brian could tell us more. I have a meyer lemon for a few years now and it was doing great until this summer. Some yellow spot on the leaves but still ok. Sunshine, IMHO, I think that our trees can live a long time with proper care. We don t have any disease like citrus greening or citrus canker here. Our enemies are more like overwatering, pests, winter leaf drop. Sure, we can have some fungus/bacterial but we can have it anywhere even in florida.

So, you see, I am thinking that is a long term investment :)))

Hello Amy thankyou my Shiranui is very nice and a nice size but needs to branch out a bit with some new leaves. Lol Amy we have been taste testing the fruit during the last few day's and Amy they are the most flavourful sweet tasting citrus I have ever eaten and that's with no curing. I can just imagine when the tree and the fruit get larger, trust me the fruit on this tree will be well guarded like a hawk .

Sunshine very good question and I think Amy did a great job answering it. My tree's are maxed out now for size well at least 4 of them these 4 are well over 12 ft tall and the ceiling in my Greenhouse is 12 ft so I will need to do some major trimming this week. Sunshine my Valencia tree is over 17 yrs old now and it's so beautiful my Meyer is 14 yrs old . I had no tag on either tree mentioning what they were grafted on I am thinking flying dragon because they both are more compact then the rest of my tree's. I am thinking if your tree's were on flying dragon there is no reason that you couldn't keep your tree's a long time with the occasional repot . The rest of my tree's are much faster growing and I just repotted them in hug pots and it will be there last pot and when they out grow their pots then its root pruning time and that I am not looking forward to . With proper care I am sure these tree's will out live me .

Brian, I agree about the longevity. I'm going to have to leave designations in my will to distribute the trees to all my kids ;-) - hopefully a long time from now! I know many of the trees I saw in Boboli gardens are very old...not sure exactly, but many tens of years, if not older. Have you guys seen the video of Oscar Tintori pruning his massive lemon tree? I have posted it here before and others have as well. That is what we will have to do and they will essentially become huge bonsai. They can still prosper and produce lots of fruit like that though.

Brian....I just ordered the Bergamot I have been wanting from FW. I called Harris and spoke to Ruth and she said theirs are growing very slowly because of the heat and they are now not expecting them to be ready until maybe February. I figured I'd get it while FW still had them in stock. I asked Ruth about the Sugar Belle and she said they only have it avalilable for contract growers now but hopefully will sell it in the future. I don't know of any other nursery that sells it...:-(

yes, housebound is true too. Husband and I discussed so often to reduce the farm load. Less goats, less sheep, less cats and dogs. Well, we did not talk about less citrus trees lol.

White flesh peach tree and four types of figs, my larger citrus salad tree, yellow dragon fruit from last year and before that. No more room for anything. That is why I asked you about longevity of container citrus, my vision for my Friendship tree is ambitious :) I want to graft my most favorite varieties of citrus on that tree and enjoy it's fruit. There are many other fruit trees that I want to have, right now I really want to buy a good avocado tree or graft one on to my avocado seedlings. So many exciting tree choices, so little room:(

I agree with sammers it seems like maddness when i started counting. Just this year i got..drum roll...lol..

Varigated pink lemon shiranui, glenn navel, finger lime, moro blood, vangilla blood, cara cara, meyer, keiffer lime, key lime, ruby red grapefruit, ice cream mango and cotton candy mango, 3 figs, and olive tree coming this week and gold nugget coming today. Im almost sure i forgot 2 but its raining so im not going out. And i want a new zealond lemonaide and anouther type of blood orange that im trying to restrain from but is awefully hard. I read great things about this washington navel also. I actually cleaned out a spare bedroom bought a 1000 w ballist and all the things to go with it for winter. My husband jokeing but serious i think, says he thinks i have a problem. What does he know. Hahaha! We need a citrusaholic group. I cant imagine next year this is my first year with the citrus bug although ive always loved them and admired the trees at the stores.

You guys in warm climates, don't feel bad about it, if you have the warmth and the space outdoors, why not? :)) For us in cold zones it gets hard to have too many.

Oh yeah I am not the only Citroholic. Sammers and Lauren OMG what a new and on going collection I think you guy's and Amy are pretty close to a tie for the most tree's bought this year but Laura is still holding out . Junk 4 us your must not buy any more citrus as gone plum right out the window with us all but we all failed in a good way . Sammers , Sunshine , Junk4us , Lauren, Laura very nice catches , thank goodness the fall and winter seasons are coming up it will give our credit cards a break untill 2018 season . Brian, your Shiranui is lovely and I am happy that you loved the fruit. I planted a tree in the ground (underground gh) about three weeks ago. It was struggling in its pot but has really perked up and is doing well.. I cannot wait to taste the fruit. Funny about your credit card taking a hit because of your citrus orders. Ours took a bit of a hit this past week ordering 13 citrus liners, bulbs, clamp lights and grow lights..

I always get excited when I see the U.P.S truck pull in the driveway.. My grow bulbs and light bulbs are here.. :D The citrus liners arrive next week and I have the growing mix, perlite, and pots ready.. :)

Laura, I am happy you will be getting the Bergamot at last..I talked to Ruth the other day and she told me that the Bergamot is slow growing but should be ready by the end of October. I will wait even if it is not ready until next year.. I have been waiting a long time for the Melogold Grapefruit to come back in stock @ FW but Ashley told me that they were probably going to drop it from their variety list.. :( The Cocktail Grapefruit is far from being ready.. I have not been been happy with a few of the trees that I purchased recently from Four Winds and with the high cost of shipping on top of that I believe that I am done ordering from them..

Great additions everyone! I am happy i'm not the only one who went overboard! I can't even count the non-citrus varieties of plants I added this year, lets just say between the edible garden and a budding brugmansia habit it was a lot ;) I am also looking into adding 5-10 varieties of figs and can't decide if its going to be now or if I should wait until spring, the addict part of me says now, the finding a place to store them part says probably wait...

sunshine - I have Vietnamese white, yellow (flesh is white, skin is yellow), a pink, and 2 purples. One I grew from seed.. I need to get these in the ground so I can get fruit in 2-3 years. I've only had the Vietnamese white fruit for me. All the other cuttings are new this year. I'm going to be the neighbor that people will either hide from or greet warmly as I try to get rid of my extra fruits. My mommy keeps giving me dragon fruit cuttings. I told her I have enough and no more space. She said to pot them up!

jinnylea - so true about the accessories. I briefly contemplated bringing my citrus to work last year since my new home was out of the quarantine area at the time. I thought about the light set up, extension cord, timer, etc. And what if I leave the company? It was easier and cheaper to give it away and buy new plants after I moved.

Brian - I think this forum is bad. Everyone encourages each other to buy more citrus! It doesn't take much...a word here or a pic there. Next thing you know, hey how did that citrus end up my car/doorstep/yard?

What a group of citrus junkies. We could make our own AC (Anonymous Citroholics) groups. Yup, ordered the Ruby from Harris. Want to smell the flowers coming spring. Spent some hours to clean out the winter quarter. Need some re arranging and more lights. Probably will do a probe sitting and see where it all will go. Frost is right around the corner but already looking forward to spring :)

Jinnylea thankyou. I would absolutely love to see a pic of your Shiranui in the ground in the GH. Sounds like your Shiranui was in the same shape as mine when it arrived, it to was struggling a bit in the pot it was in . Jinnylea you bring up a fantastic point about all the other costs like pots which are more expensive than the tree's :( , the lighting the costs of running a GH .Yesterday we paid a couple of hundred dollars for the insulation paneling for the GH . We are going tomorrow to purchase light fixtures and lights . Love the UPS truck lol.

Owari satsuma (I think)...this is another from a local nursery that I was not looking for, but I saw it (it is from RB farms) and my daughter put in in our cart!

I also took in (for very little $$) a limequat and a red ruby grapefruit, both were nearly defoliated. The limequat is doing quite well. The grapefruit is ok - not in danger of going to citrus heaven, but not growing tons either.

Oh, and I ordered the bergamot today, which will be my last for the year I think.

So see...not such a huge list. I honestly got quite worried this summer when I saw the size some of my trees are reaching. I really am going to have to spread them throughout the house because they will not fit in my sunroom as well as they did last year. Even the ones I got this year - especially the two lemons - look like they almost need to be repotted already. I have been repotting many of my trees (potting them up really) and many are quite large. Even the little guys from Logees I got last year are much, much bigger.

I ALMOST put the trovita orange in my cart this morning, but resisted...I think I'll hold out for the sugar belle someday.

Frankly, when all the lemons are producing, I'm going to go crazy using them up. As it stands now, I have about 30 almost full-size Persian limes, over a hundred key limes, at least 50 limequats, and God knows how many calamondins...I'm going to need recipes!

I forgot to add the bouquet de fleurs to the list above. I guess I subconsciously forgot about it because I am so annoyed with that tree.

I have been keeping in touch with Ruth about the Bergamot since last summer. It was supposed to be ready by late summer 2016. Then late fall 2016. Then spring 2017. Then mid- summer 2017.. Then September.. October and now next spring 2018!! Man, that is one slow growing tree! :D

I just talked to Ruth again last Thursday and she said it should be ready by the middle of October. I talked to her brother this afternoon and he said it should be ready by the end of October. I have a feeling it will not be ready, like you said, until early spring 2018. It is good that you went ahead and ordered it from FW.. I wonder what rootstock the Bergamot is on and that Harris and FW are using. It sounds like it needs a pretty warm, consistent temperature to get a good growth rate.. I know that they are batting down the hatches in Leu of the hurricane. I am worried for them all also. I told them to stay safe and my prayers are with them.

PS: I asked Ruth about the Sugarbelle Tangelo last year after seeing it listed on the back of their brochure. She told me the same thing as you, Laura. Not available yet to the general backyard growers..

Jinny, you have a good memory, but although I asked, I never ordered those trees in the end. Don't give me any more ideas!!! Lauren, at least you can leave them out a little longer than I can...any extra timen outside helps, but yes, the height and width are issues indoors. Ruth definitely said that they were VERY slow to grow. She attributed it to the excess heat they've had this year. I just have been wanting it and figured that by the time I decided to order it, FW would be sold out again...

Sammers, I am so happy to see that you finally got your coveted Santa Teresa Lemon. I to had to wait over a year before it came back in stock late summer of 2016. I ordered 2 and I love them. They sell out quickly. . I saw that they had a few back in stock just yesterday but they sold out very fast.. Be sure to post pictures when you get them. :)

The Bergamot grew slow in the greenhouse over the winter because of longer, colder, winter temperatures than usual in Florida and now because of the heat. Poor tree can't catch a break. Trust me I have been tempted to purchase the tree from FW, but I kept having faith that Harris would have them available by late fall and since I have been calling them and asking about the tree since last year, I kinda feel obligated to stick with them.. weird, I know. Lol

My oro blanco dropped one of its fruit. It was about 4 inches diameter and very green. Wife and I ate it and found it to be quite tasty eve though it wasn't ripe. It was a bit bitter but not nearly as bitter as I expected. Can't wait to see what the rest will taste like when they are ripe.

Jinny, let me know when you get your tree/s from Harris. It would be interesting to compare. FW has been hit or miss...lemon trees have been great, but GN, not so much. Vladimir, I can't wait to try my oro blanco fruit! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it.

Laura Laura that wasn't so bad, Laura the first step is admitting that your a Citroholic once you do that then there might be a slight chance for help lol if you don't more tree's lol. How could you forget about 6 tree's that weren't on your first list are there more lol?

Thank you Brian. Now if they all get that big I hope I will be able to add a green house one day. Already told my husband that I would like to have one big enough for all the trees and still room for at least two chairs.

Oh Susanne you would absolutely love a large greenhouse with a couple of chairs in it . That would sure do wonders for your long Michigan winter. Susanne every weekend during the winter I would bring a radio in my GH and listen to radio channels from Florida and read the forum with a huge cup of coffee so nice . I sure don't mind the snow now .
