You can scrape off powdery mildew. You can't scrape off silvering.

Yeah, I realize that, so do you know exactly what it is? Disease, pest, or nutrients? Are they worth keeping? I'm kind of growimg them just for the fun of it. Never grown pumpkins before

Are those the oldest of the leaves that are silvering? Were the plants direct seeded or transplanted? Doesn't appear to be any disease I have seen but possibly a nutrient issue. If the new growth is green and looks normal I wouldn't worry about it.

They may quickly take over the greens in those beds but if the greens will be harvested in the next few weeks it should be a problem

Hey lonejack, the new growth is a lil pale compared to when it was first started. I just fertilizes them today with a half strength liquid fert. They were direct seeded. I do have a whitefly issue that I'm trying to resolve, any ideas? The silver starts at the veins and spread to the whole leaf. I have a total of 8 plants, 2 in each spot spaced at 24in. I plan to train them away from the bed of greens. The greens in the bed are Siberian kale which I plan to cut for baby leaf production. Im gonna wait and see if the pumpkins improve in the next week or so, they just started to form buds. Also the beds they ate in are kind of close to some trees.

My point was, if you can scrape if off, you know what it is (some fungus). If you can't scrape it off you know it's something else (silvering).

I have had this happen to squash and from what I found researching it, it is a disorder caused by a kind of whitefly. My plants were stunted but did produce for awhile. You might try to treat the whitefly - tricky to do - they are tough. http://hortsci.ashspublications.org/content/44/5/1213.full

My bad daninthedirt - I misunderstood you. I can not scrape it off. So I'm ruling out powdery mildew.

Hey slowjane - the link is not found. I do have a whitefly issue. Been using insecticidal soaps and also Bayer complete insect control with some success. Any suggestions?

Glad the article was helpful. As for suggestions for whitefly control - I don't really have any. I've tried insecticidal soaps but haven't been consistent. Currently I'm just cultivating spiders and the praying mantises so I haven't been spraying them. They are mostly on my kale. With those plants, I find I can wait out most infestations since the plants are so hardy - except cabbage worms. Good luck!
