Our kitchen is U-shaped, very open with vaulted ceilings and is 21 feet across. Our island will be 9 feet across centered in the U. Due to the way the ceilings are we can only do 2 pendants over the island. I was thinking of going with 2- 18 inch wide pendants. Do you think this is too small? Too big? The pendants also come in a 14 inch width.

I'm trying to figure out how far apart the electrical boxes should be. I came up with the following but I have no clue if this will look right. I have 20 inches to actual fixture from edges of island and then 32 inches between each fixture. So would the distance between the center of each electrical box have to be 50 inches? Would you increase or decrease the space between each fixture. I've included photos of the space and fixtures under consideration. Thanks for any help. This is driving me insane.
