Need ID for 2 roses

last modified: 8 years ago

I have two rose bushes that I'm trying to identify... They were both purchased about 15 years ago by my mother.

The first:

Grows to about 2 metres (6 feet) with very erect branches. Dangerously thorny, its serrated leaves shoot an almost purple mahogany before turning green. The flowers are quite large and compact, heavily scented and are a deep pink -- I believe it is a hybrid tea rose, as the flowers are perfectly shaped. Upon first seeing the blooms, many people mistake it for a red rose, but when compared side by side, it is most certainly pink. It flowers multiple times throughout the year and often on long stems, but, on occasion, they grow in sets of two or three on short stems. The closest I could find is a variety called Cherry Lady, though it doesn't seem quite right:

The second:

This one is a very compact shrub, growing to about half a metre (1-2 feet). It is completely covered in thorns and its serrated leaves shoot green with red edges. It is, perhaps, a floribunda rose. It flowers a couple of times a year and in clusters. The blooms themselves are fairly small and open, with little to no scent and are a definite red. The flowers turn to hips. The closest varieties I could find are Europeana and Fire Cracker:

As it is the end of Winter here in Australia, I don't have any photos of the bushes, but I may be able to dig something up.

Any ideas?
