Does the rug match the sofa?

Can you post a similar close-up of the sofa and curtain fabric together?

Here are two rugs that might work:

Your room will enlarge visually if you match the drapes to the wall color instead of to the furniture. Also, having drapes on just the one window is not working. Either have them on all windows or do without them all together. Consider selling those on Craig's List and getting new ones, or using those in a bedroom. Online, you'll do better to look for 108" drapes and then have them hemmed up/ Even though they are stationary, I think they'd look better on an actual rod, rather than the stationary poles. I've always been happy with drape from Country Curtains. They're not cheap, but well made.

I agree with area rug, & cushions with an accent color like a wine red or saphire blue. Also with a gey sofa, off white walls may look better. Some white mouldings at cielings to match white shutters. They have inexpensive nice area rugs at Costco & tall drapes at Pennys on the internet.

This is what the room originally looked like when we moved in. (The house came furnished). Sadly, all of our additions and toys have only made the place look worse.

Painting-- Melissa- Agree that changing the paint color would help. However, it extends into the living room. and kitchen. Not prepared for non-trivial changes yet.

Curtains:

- I had some white curtains upstairs. tried the suggestion to put in white curtains. This is probably the wrong color white-- seems to clash/wash out.

Rozana-- might try out your suggestion!

Would love to hear other suggestions as well.

Rugs:

I like the suggestions so far. The existing rug is pretty large (120x150).

Which one do people think would match the best? I have no eye for these kind of things.

You need a rug with both gray and brown. Your current rug looks like it could be a hair too large anyway, encroaching on the dining area. Add some lighting. Get rid of the coffee table(s). They're too far away to use with a reclining sofa and leave no room for the kids and dog to play. Get a couple of these C-tables instead.
