There is no way of removing the problem other than digging up everything and cleaning the bed. Alternatively remove just the Hostas clean them up and plant elsewhere. If you don't want to do that you're left with regular pulling. There's no magic solution I'm afraid

I, unfortunately, agree with you but don't want to face it!! I am so upset that I ever planted that horrible Houttuynia. In fact, at the time I removed a hosta and put it in another place and did not know some of the Houttuynia went with it and now it is all over that place also!! I am ready to scream, it has ruined all my hosta beds!! Just a warning - beware of the Houttuynia monster!!! ;-( Thanks for the inevitable!!

Agree with floral. Dig up the hosta, wash the roots and replant where their is no vine. Then, use herbicide on the vine till it gives up, which may take a while.

I intentionally planted this as well and seriously regret it. However, I have planted other things that are invasive and don't respond to round up. They are a bigger issue. This does respond to round up. I know this is not always the acceptable answer for those that do not like chemicals, but round up does kill it. Even with round up it takes years. Use round up on a paint brush with latex gloves and hand paint the leaves carefully.

I did try round up on it every year. It does kill it for a time but it comes back!! I know I have to attack this plant and kill it once and for all and I think the only way is to remove all the hostas and keep the roundup on it constantly.
