White part of apple sprout

I started my apple seeds in little cups of soil in the refrigerator, as I was told that they needed a freezing period in order to germinate.

A few sprouted well before the 3 month mark, and I told them out. They died.

So, naturally I left the other sprouts in until the three month mark was up. However, a few had grown so tall (I'm guessing searching for light), and now most of the stem is white.

I'm wondering if I need to put those sprouts in another container so I can bury them up to where the green starts, or are they fine and I'm just being paranoid
