From my experience it is always best to start with a clear idea of what you want to achieve. Decide which of your vintage pieces you want in the room and then find a fabric or painting that matches them and evokes the right mood! You want to make the room look and FEEL right. Use the fabric or art as your foundation to build the design from. When mixing styles, like contemporary and vintage, there is an 80:20 rule: 80% one style 20% the other. When using a strong color on the walls it is especially important to remember that it will look different in your room than it does on the paint chip. It can in fact look VERY different depending upon the lighting, so paint several large pieces of MDF - or other cheap material - with your color choices and put them against all the different walls to see how it will really look. With lighter color paints, you can always take them back to the store to be adjusted with additions of a warm or cool tone, but with deeper colors it gets harder as there is a limit to how much tint you can put into the paint base.

Your wall needs some interest behind the art. Create some large moldings on the wall, paint the interior space a bright complementary color, and hang all the canvases within this space to create an even bigger focal point. Right now it seems very cluttery with no relationship. Think about making a triptych of large canvases, add two more, and it should improve the balance too. Create some additional interest with additional canvas in different sized forms. Create islands of art inside large outlines of moldings spaced along the wall. Good luck. When you hang it in the living room I'm afraid the a/c unit detracts from the art and all I can see then is the appliance. I like either the dining room or bedroom, but it's such a fun piece I think you should hang it where you will see it often. Maybe try to find 2 placemats in the background color to include the table in with the art.

I like the suggestions for blue, teal, turquoise in art over sofa and in cushions, and you can combine those with a touch of navy (to reference the curtains), a definite coastal combo. I wouldn't do a navy wall, but like the idea of a softer colour above the chair rail in the dining room. Could you bring in a driftwood element, in a side table, picture frame, lamp,or even just a decorative piece? Driftwood seems to warm gray without fighting with it, and would be nice with your floor. And I echo those, including you, who say the cat is spectacular, especially in that room!
