Cabinet Quality

This may be a silly question, but is there a list anywhere of cabinet/vendor quality? For example, if you are looking for a budget cabinet, these are some good suggestions...high-end, think about these, etc. My contractor mentioned Fabuwood and Decora, but I don't really know much about them. I'm going to do some research on here, but wondered if someone had already compiled this information somewhere! Thank you

Some things that we suggest watching for would be:

    • Drawer Construction

    • Your drawer slides are also huge. Along with the construction of the drawer, the slide quality be what determines how much weight you can put on it, side to side movement, etc.

    • Materials used for the interiors of your cabinets

    • Ask the kitchen companies about how they finish their cabinets

    • Don't just determine by cost, but also see what reviews are on service. You want a kitchen company who will be reliable and on time, etc.

Just a few tips from a cabinet manufacturer. Hopefully they help you a bit.

Thank you! I will see if I can find the master list as well. Let me know if you locate it before I do!

I agree with Rita, just start searching the kitchen forum. Search one cabinet brand at a time (and wording differently gets different results). A lot of threads that talk about a certain cabinet, will usually talk about the company and how they rate. (especially read the threads where things go badly, you will find out more about the company that way)

There are many brand threads, but [here[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/relative-cabinetry-prices-brand-vs-brand-dsvw-vd~2515448?n=193) is a pretty lengthy one.

I wish you success in your search. :)

Fabuwood is an import line. Decora is a great mid grade line. They are not at all equals.

Cabinets are the largest part of your budget in a renovation. 30-50%, depending on what else you are having done. There are many great cabinet lines out there, many good ones, and even some OK ones. How happy you are at any price point will depend on your expectations for that price point. Aristokraft makes a great entry level product, but if you are expecting it to be Plain and Fancy, it's not, and you will be disappointed. Once you get to actual mid grade quality, there is nothing substantially different about any line that makes it head and shoulders "better" than another, other than the experience and creativity of the person designing in it.

The best advice is to avoid imports, and find a good KD who can help you through the process.

There is no master list of cabinet companies. Many of the lists you might find will have major cabinet brands ( the national groups ) . They often will not include the wonderful regional companies that will be out there. The best thing you can do is find a KD that you will be working with and see what their offering is then look into those companies. You will make yourself crazy looking into companies that may not be available in your area.

As others have said the most important things are the construction of the drawer/rollouts, the box itself and what the finish process is. Look for companies using hardware from Blum ( it is some of the best ). All plywood construction for the box and shelves is great ( although I have seen a few companies with excellent furniture board product ).

You will always find good and bad reviews, the trick is to read into the reviews - make sure the issue is really about the cabinet company and not something the designer/contractor did.

Someone had mentioned avoiding imports... and there are some that are crap, but I also have had the pleasure of trying to work with American made product that was crap as well, so I don't follow that rule. I happen to sell Fabuwood and my customers that have it really like it... here is my most recent kitchen from them:

DO some homework and let us know what you are looking at and everyone will jump in...

There are very knowledgeable folks on here to help!

    Good luck!
