Your experience sounds very similar to my surgery May 22, Lois! I could not believe that I was pain free after 10 plus years of a very bad knee. I had very little pain from the surgery also - only needed a few pain meds at home and none after one week. By week 3 after surgery I was walking with no cane or walker. I saw my surgeon on Aug. 31 and he said I was doing so well, I didn't have to come back until my one year anniversary in May 2018.

Take all the PT that you can and your new knee will be stronger with each exercise! I was amazed at how competitive I was with myself when trying to reach the next goal in my PT.

I now consider myself to be the walking poster person for "get that new knee sooner rather than later." LOL!

WOW, congrats on your speedy recovery. I'm amazed at how soon people are recovering from these surgeries nowadays. Especially knee and hip replacements. Good for you and I hope the next is the same.

Lois, I didn't know you were having knee surgery! I'm glad it went well and wish you a speedy recovery.

My rotator cuff surgery was outpatient - I went home as soon as the anesthesia wore off. I would say my worst pain level was day 2 after the nerve block wore off, and it went to about a 5 out of 10. Still recovering, though - building up my strength and trying to get 100% range of motion back.

Lucky you to get it done when you are in general good health. Both of my knees are painful but my Dr. Isnt that keen on repair work. Maybe I need a new Dr. Keep up the pt.

Wow! That's great to hear. I'd heard some scary and some great stories about knee replacement but most of them are better off after the surgery than before, I guess.

Good news - very happy for you.

I can't say how many of our customers told us that they wished they'd have had the knee surgery sooner. They'd put it off & put it off from fear and were very happy once it was done.

Theresa, we have a friend who needed back surgery. The drs up here in Indiana wouldn't do it because of her age. She is a snow bird and the dr in Florida said he could do it. He did and her back pain is gone. He works on older people all the time in FL, so is more proficient and confident at it, I guess.

I think what I have to do is go in and cry and cry and cry, my knees hurt. Maybe then he will hear me.

Theresa, is your doc saying your general health isn't good enough for surgery? Or is it just your age? My stepdaughter had trouble finding a surgeon because she was too young - late 40's. They said she was too young for the surgery. She finally found a doc who said she was too young to be living in such pain. She's had them both done now, and she's so pleased. She had ruined her knees by water-skiing and downhill skiing.

My leg is so swollen, it looks like a tree trunk. The doc said she's not surprised. She had to do a lot of bone spur removal which causes a lot of trauma, I guess. PT is tough with all the swelling, but I'm working on it. I can walk without a cane or walker. Pretty amazing. Thanks, everyone, for your well wishes.

Lois, my coworker had knee surgery (just a clean out, not replacement) and her doc was a woman, too. Interesting.

Thanks Lois! But I think I haven't been loud enough in my complaints. For an 84 year old, I am in quite good health. Next visit "hear me roar".

Theresa, one of my golf buddies is 82, and she had a knee replacement last January. She played golf all summer. Go for it!

Donna, when I went to see my doctor worried about the extent of the swelling, she was so kind. She held my leg so lovingly, exclaiming over how straight it was, albeit swollen. She was really proud and happy with her work, you could tell. It reminded me of how I might feel about one of my quilts.

So glad things went well and hope the other one goes as well.
