Baseboard-getting around

Does anyone have any experience building a bench above a base board heating that's in a bay window. I really really want to build a seat there but don't know if putting something above the heat run is an issue or not.

Build your bench with a tall toe kick and relocate the baseboard heat to the front of the bench.

Or vent the front of your bench.

What type of baseboard heating do you have? If its hydronic, I don't think there would be any issue. If its electric, you need to install a metal heat shield on top between the wood and the heater, but that is not that complicated. However, it would be best to find out the manufacturer's specs if its electric, since it may state that the top must be open.

There may be enough radiator to handle the needs of the room if it has not been derated already after improved windows and insulation. Assuming hydronic, if there is enough radiator space left after removing part of it, you may be able to get back up to capacity by installing higher output radiators or convectors.
