Seeking help for roof color!

Hello, Seeking thoughts on a roof color. I like the current deep brown roof of our mid-century house, but it needs to be replaced. Looking at Certainteed Landmark series. Choosing between Heather Blend and Weathered Wood, but am open to other ideas (pewterwood, driftwood?). The gutters are brown (a bit reddish, like the heather blend) and the windows are bronze trim. The house is grey, but eventually will need to be repainted. I like to play up the modern, mid-century look and am a bit leary of the orange tint of the Heather Blend--though it is close to the gutters. I think a uniform color would be more modern, but all seem to have variation.

Hello. I would leave color of a roof. But if you want to change it, then I would advise dark gray color

I'm not an expert on roofs by any means, but if you are looking to enhance the mid century modern look, why choose a shingle that emulates shakes?

We also have narrowed our roofing choices down to Landmark Weathered Wood or Driftwood. Our house is light tan with brown brick accents. We have almost decided to go with Weathered Wood because of the color variations. It seems it could go with either warm or cool colors if we change our house color down the road. The color we really loved was Colonial Slate but don't think it would look good with tan siding. Have you looked at that one?

Dear Groveraxle, Thank you for this article and your comment. I was thinking the same thing. That said, our neighbors who have truly flat roofs always seem to be fussing with some of the alternative roof types described, whereas we've barely had an issue with our old shingle roof (until a tree branch shot through it). I think the metal would be nice, but with the trees dropping branches, I think the metal might fare worse than shingle. I've debated going with the very flat and cheapest three tab type of shingle, since essentially it's the plainest, but I'm told the "landmark" is a better product...

Dear HD, I was thinking the same thing about the Weathered Wood--that it can go in either a brown or a grey direction. Our house is currently grey, per the picture, but I've never been happy with the shade, and imagine it will either go darker grey or tan in the future. I think the driftwood is also possibly neutral that way. The contractor recommended Heather blend, again, because it goes with the gutters, but I read elsewhere advice not to match a roof with gutters, as it's a long-term investment and gutters can be painted...

I agree about Driftwood, it could go either way brown or gray. Driftwood is nice because it seems to have both cool and warm tones, plus has less of the mottling effect that Weathered has. Has your roofer given you the addresses of other roofs they have done in the different choices? That was very helpful to us.
