Thank you for your question. 21" is the standard depth of the hutch base when the pull-out tray is closed. When the tray is pulled out, the depth increases by approximately 20".

So the dimension of the lower hutch base with the pull-out tray extended is 41"? What prevents the entire hutch from falling forward if weight is placed on the forward edge of the pull-out tray?

Sorry for the delay in reply. We didn't see your question until now, and also realized that we provided you with incorrect information. The tray pulls out to 13". That will prevent the hutch from tipping over when items are placed on the tray. Also the weight of the hutch will help to keep it falling forward.

Can you please provide dimensions for the upper portion of the hutch, and for the lower base portion of the hutch? From viewing the photo of the item, the upper hutch has a depth which is less than the lower hutch base. I see where the pull out tray has a depth of 13". Is the total depth of the lower base hutch 33" with the pull out tray extended? Is there a weight limit for the pull out tray?
