I have got to get my two nahema in the ground . I have an arbor I haven't put up yet , so I played around today while my daughter was napping with its placement.

I'm addicted to arbors and will probably put up another anyway so I'm not sure why I feel so indecisive.

Mostly because there is a slight chance ( ok maybe 50 percent)of moving for my husbands job and I'm afraid I'm setting myself up for a lot of undoing all that I have done. But that is neither here nor there. I'm trusting God will provide for that if he wants us to move .

The beds will be bumped out to include the arbor and provide more planting room .

Wishing anyone of you could come over and help me with some clarity here! Sometimes I get descision paralysis . I just can't keep roses in pots all winter "just in case" and then lose them .

Please share which view you like best . :)

    Lilyfinch,

That 50% chance of having to make a move if your husband gets a new job is pretty strong.

Your family needs you relaxed and refreshed right now.

I advise you to hold off any more planting/redesigning at this time. Before the brutal weather sets in, you can heel in your potted roses for the winter with lots of protective cover, and they will make it through.

If you move, you will need all your energy in relocating your family and plants. The arbor addition will wear you out for the move.

If you don't move, you will give yourself a much needed winter rest that will revive you for spring, 2018 projects. I guarantee you will redesign/make adjustments to your arbor plan many times over this coming winter, until you arrive at the ideal design.

I prefer group A. Group B photos appear to have relatively more height in the landscape around the arbor placement as oppose to the first location where the arbor really stands out and is best highlighted in my opinion. I also like the idea of those beds joined together.

My first choice was immediately group B. Lisa

I go with what Moses said. Even if the potted roses are in 15 gal pots, you can winter protect them. Just looking at you're pictures, I see a lot of trees that will drop a lot of leafs and that sings winter protection for anything in a pot. Take a good deep breath until your husbands job situation is settled. Enjoy what you have in the ground right now. Spring 2018 isn't that far away.

It's tough because each time I moved the arbor, I thought it was the right spot ! I do like B best by a thin margin . I think I can do another arbor down the road so maybe it's not so urgent. Moses you are the voice of reason and while I know you are right.... I feel like I wanted to gain control of these projects now . If we stay I'll be so glad come spring that I got this going. I thought I could just get nahema planted without installing the arbor until spring.

I think b is the right spot ( for now ! Ha ) . But maybe I will just pot up these nahemas and hope they survive the winter . Descisions descisions .

Outrider , I do see what you are saying about the height of current landscaping. Definitely something I need to work on is adding visual height and depth. Since my garden is a few years old and things pretty new they are all about waist high . I have so far to go !

I appreciate y'all indulging my question! Always helpful to hear what others think . Time to get back to daydreaming!

When looking through the arbor what will the viewer see? Does it frame other roses, objects, or the hills in the background? You might want to add that to your decisions decisions list.... lol

Lilyfinch, Moses is not only the voice of reason, he is wise. In my head, I know you should listen to him, but in my heart, I say get another arbor and be done with it. :) One great big thing in your favor is that you are young and a move isn't as stressful as it would be for me, but you have a wee little girl who will need a lot of reassurance about a new home, new room, new everything. (Although, seeing her in pictures, she looks as though everything in the whole wide world is a joy to her, and will probably adapt to new surrounds with ease.) When I see winter approaching, I get a fresh spark of energy and ideas and even start buying more plants (not roses) because I want to squeeze in as much gardening as I can before I'm forced to stop. Is there an antidote for this garden fever we all have?! Good luck whichever way you choose.

B, but you can't go wrong. Either is beautiful. Though, I see the wisdom in waiting, too.

I'm bookmarking this pic so that whenever I'm feeling down or cynical, I remember what's possible through living in the moment.

Regarding the arbor.... while it is hard for me to see the general plan of the garden without an aerial shot or drawing, I'm drawn to B just by a smidge. However, my dream is to have a tunnel of arches and have the roses reaching through to the walkway which leads to a secluded feature of some sort that, of course, includes seating. The roses could be supplemented with clematis. You already have two arches, so you're well on your way! : )
