What a fabulous house! Congratulations. The very first thing to do is replace the flooring throughout to be cohesive. It will update the home tremendously and will make the house look much larger. I'd remove the corner "hutch" and center your table with the chandelier - which is one of the first things to do - update the lighting. Start with these two things and your base is there for a beautiful start.

PS. I don't think you need to remove any walls. It is quite open as is and it's nice to have the family room space a bit private. Is there a fireplace in the living room? Do you have a focal point in there?

Well, the good news is it's a large open space. The bad news is, your house is very dated and it's going to take some money to fix that because it's a large, open space. You need to start by fixing all of the weirdness with those interior non load bearing walls. You will need to determine what can be removed and then do so. Then you're going to need to update the flooring. Then the kitchen will need to be updated (those cabinets are very dated). So you have a lot of work on your hands with that one, but it could look great with some decorating taste and money.

Behind the kitchen are a two bedroom space that was left open and used as a family room. Does anyone think the kitchen should be moved forward towards the fireplace and the dining room put in the kitchen nook area?

I'd suggest that you hire an interior designer, not a decorator. An interior designer can help you with your questions and come up with a long-term plan. The designer can also help you avoid making expensive mistakes. Good luck! Your house is a real winner! Btw, I'm not an interior designer- I just worked with one recently for the first time. It was so much easier and definitely worth the money!
