Cross pollination affects only the seeds not the fruit itself of the current crop. Any crossing will show up the following year when those seeds are planted.

Sure it is possible that you got some seed that had been crossed - especially from SeedSavers - but every effort is made by most commercial seed growers to prevent crossing.

Many seed companies get most of their seeds from the same groups of growers so a crossed seed now and then in a packet isn't all that rare. But there are first class vendors as well as second and third and even fourth class vendors so it pays to use the better ones. Check out Baker Creek for Nardello peppers.

thanks dave, gee i notice they have the melrose peppers also they are delicious.. and some great tomato varieties, dave is there somewhere a list of reputable seed growers or a place where they are rated ?

Well there are any number of discussions here on this and other forums about "where to buy seeds" or "best seed source" etc. and the search here will pull those up for you. Then there is the Rate and Review Vendors forum here and there is Garden Watchdog and Mother Earth News publishes an annual review list as well as do several other gardening websites.
