Challenging studio decoration

I’m new here my name is Jousze and I just moved to continue my studies. I rented a really small studio with 2 separated pieces, a living room/kitchen and a bedroom. I’ve always been really good in interiors and decorating but this time i’m Lost cause I can’t do any work or break any wall or anything. I would like to do like a little living room space or something like that and I wanted to ask if I post the pictures of the studio if someone would help me. We can move everything except the kitchen. I am going to wait someone to answer and then I will post the pictures. Money is not a problem so you can perfectly tell me buy this buy that etc.. well thanks in advance!!

    yep, sounds like fun!

It’s like this, I had thought to move the desk to the bedroom so I would have more space but i don’t know if it would be a good idea so well. There you have haha
  • 9 years ago

pics not so great. there is only you there normally right? Also are there any colors you like? are you crafty? what all do you plan to do there? Have you thought of using your table as your desk?

I will be alone there, I like black white and grey, neutral colors. What I’m gonna do there is to study so I would normally use the desk, but I can perfectly buy another one. And if About crafty you mean if I can build furnitures yes I can.

I would consider either moving the desk to the bedroom or having a fold-down desk, because otherwise you won't have room for a couch or any other livingroom-type furniture!

As a general rule, it is best to not have your work station in your bedroom. Helps you rest without seeing unfinished work.

So Acm should I put one of those tables or using the same as for eating or something?
And okay not putting it in the bedroom but it’s because there’s space in the bedroom that I could use.
I also thought about moving the furnitures to gain more space but i don’t know how.
I found all these studios, they are not amazing but at least they are beautiful and their size is more or less like mine. I have the disadvantage of not being able to move the kitchen but i suppose i can do something.

yes, that is what i meant use 1 table for both things, eating and desk. have the room divider or shelves next to it so you can store your desk things in there, when not in use. I would also stack the remaining chairs in a corner.

I also think that in this small space a scandinavian wood chair x2 would be a good idea. unless you wanted a sofa or lounger in there?

I have a 2 bedroom condo and I'm constantly trying to get some order. My problem is that I have too much stuff and finding places for things is hard.

I still not knowing what to do! It’s making me angry haha
  • 9 years ago

Can you post a pic of the floorplan with dimensions? This way others will be able to help you with a furniture layout that works.

Denita I don’t have it cause it’s rented but I’m going to try to remake it on planner 5d and I’ll post it!
More or less is the same, the empty room is the bathroom but I don’t need to change anything in there.
Next to the bed there’s a wardrobe and next to the kitchen there’s like a chimney. Unless the chimney and the kitchen I can change everything.

Great idea. Or even just a hand drawn sketch on graph paper with dimensions will help.

Jousze - please don't get angry. This should be a fun project, and don't expect it to happen right away. It's a process.. Sit back, look at other ideas for inspiration and then see what "talks" to you. One thing you might want to do is consider rugs. If you have a budget.. if you don't, I know how to do things on a dime and I can try to help. Where are you located> looks very Euro

tis ok jousze, it just takes time, the more you can input the quicker it will be.

It was an expression I’m not getting angry. It’s in Belgium and yes I do have a budget so you can tell me o buy things, money is not a problem. I thought about rugs too but I don’t know where to put them. I would love to make like a little living room but I don’t know how to do it

Sometimes too many people telling you what to do and not do can be a bit overwhelming...remember they are all trying to help. I don't know your taste. Is it contemporary or modern? You can never go wrong with a high quality oriental rug. Are you going to need to create a living area with a sofa and chairs? Some lamps instead of overhead lights are always nice. Make a corner nook for eating and the table can go there, out of the way.

I like both styles I wanted to make it like white black grey brown colours. And I thought about putting the table against the wall cause as I’m going to live alone I don’t need 4 chairs, so I can remove 2 of them. Problem stills being how to do a “living room” I’d like to put a little sofa, like a two places one and a little coffee table, but I cannot find the space for it.. and I also thought about “dividing” with a shelf or something but I don’t know how neither. By the way, I know that all of you are helping! Thanks!! I’m getting all of those ideas, I just need more :)

OK, what if you got sheer drapes and went across the entire wall to hide the windows and soften the room instead of all the rigid wood that's everywhere - Those sheers can be bought for cheap.. and seems like these go up pretty high- almost to the ceiling. I think that would look great, and hide those windows.. I thought this was really pretty [https://www.houzz.com/photos/dallas-tx-sara-and-rocky-garza-eclectic-bedroom-dallas-phvw-vp~5231352[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/dallas-tx-sara-and-rocky-garza-eclectic-bedroom-dallas-phvw-vp~5231352)

do you have room for clothes and shoes? ha.. that's always been an issue with me. I have a guest bedroom that is now a second closet.. Some rolling racks like they have at stores to keep off season clothes, covered with plastic.. ( I hardly wear anything but about the same 10 thins ) LOL

Yes that would be cool to hide those horrible windows to be honest. And no I don’t have a clothes room, everything I have you cans see it above on the sketch. Don’t ou have any idea of how to move the furnitures and what to buy in order to make a little living room?

as we said without some other help, those pics are very distorted. ok, i will give it my best shot, but without improvements? put tv above the fp,, if not too high. then put couch facing tv or 2 chairs if no room. otherwise put tv where the desk is currently. run the couch or chairs across the room facing the tv. put the desk over by the windows and shelves along side. I would get the shelves from ikea. I can help you look for some sofas or chairs online, but we do not know what size to look for. i would have one or small ottomans, these that have storage would be good.

then i would have a table along these lines

and this on the other side

if you are not looking at totally sheer, like the ones above that can be done with walmart, really cheap sheets too. They are also easy to care for.

Havingfun I thought about putting a 2places sofa cause it’s little. Then everything looks good and I already saw shelves in IKEA that are cool. I have a question, what is it fp? I don’t understand where did you tell me to put the tv. Thanks and the furnitures you attached look so good by the way!

fp = fire place. i do not think you should put it there unless it is very low. other wise hang it where the desk is now. when you say a 2 places sofa, are you talking a love seat? those are generally seen as an unwise investment. they take up almost as much room as a 3 seat sofa, and they don't allow you to stretch out. a chair and a recliner would be better.

    a few pillows

Honestly I don’t know how is it called but it’s like a little sofa. I like the grey one you added the 3rd picture. How could I find that somewhere, how is it called?
This for example it’s what I mean with 2 places sofa.

yes, common name is love seat in usa. but normally people encourage 3 person for reasons stated above. should i dump the pillows or did you like them?

I’ve liked some of them. I’ll check for more anyway. I’m going in Saturday to Ikea and I’ll search for things to see how to do my living room
  • 9 years ago

tell me which you do not like and i will remove them to give you more room.

    2nd, 5th 6th I don’t like them
So good idea about the bed! I’ll try it and post pictures. about the living room I just want it to stay there a bit at night after having dinner or watch something on my computer, like a place to chill. I don’t even need tv cause I don’t really watch it.

    jouze, removed the unliked pillows.

    This could work ...

Separate the bed from the desk area by a free-standing bookcase or even a decorative screen where the pink line is.

Put the desk in the new "study area" if the light is good.

In the other room, a couple of comfortable chairs, a small sofa, and a coffee table for sitting and chatting or reading your classwork.

Yes that could work! I’m going to do something similar, I already moved the desk and I’m going to buy furnitures again tomorrow. So I will update it
