Help identifying intended use for thrift store pottery find.

Hi All, I came across this at a thrift store and couldn't go home without it, even though I have no idea what it's used for - the owner at the store didn't know either. With my little bit of research my first thought was a berry bowl, but one: it's so fancy, and two: why the lid? It's about 8" across and 4" wide. Curious if anyone has seen anything like it and knows what's used for! Right now it's holding some vintage glass grapes :) Thanks, pamela.

Could it be a butter bell?

Too big for a butter bell. I'd have bought that in a second, it's very nice. I have a bunch of that blue/brown pottery serving pieces, most from student sales at local pottery classes. I think most date to about 1980, plus minus 5 years.

Thank you Voila! I think you're right: https://youtu.be/n6Q9Bkx3a5w took a little bit of searching to find one close to mine, but this video shows it being made and in use! Mystery solved!

I have something similar that I bought from a potter in Minnesota. Yes, it is a vegetable steamer.
