I've been fighting this bug all summer as it has slowly spread to everything...woody hydrangeas, coneflowers, heliposis, rose of Sharon, astilbe, itea. I've tried spraying with the hose, a mite spray, sudsy water, and diometris earth, nothing has helped. Someone suggested thrips but afte researching them they do not jump away when bothered or blown on. They crawl if touched and the larvae crawl as well.
