Here's the picture of the tub. I'm trying to stay within a budget for this project.

Then I'd skip any changes to the vanity other than new knobs.

    Mirror Mate $75

    Woodrow $20

    Towel bars $40

    Knobs $5

    Towels $40

    New Light $75

    $250 and there you go.

    Thank you for your help!

Home depot less than $250 for light and vanity set. Or you can just replace counter/sink and paint vanity. The vanity is the ugly duckling in the room.

I echo kulrn's idea to replace outdated Hollywood lights, and make sure you get something with frosted shades to reduce glare. The vanity could be painted a fun color. I'd also consider using 1.25" diameter grab bars as towel bars; kids can be hard on them! The only other thought is when replacing mirror, if you do, is to leave room to slip in a narrow shelf where the toothbrushes, etc can live up off the small counter. Good luck!

I vote for Mirror mate too! I have used them multiple times. Awesome way to frame a builder's grade mirror on a budget.

Buy a new vanity/sink combo at lowe's or home depot; it will instantly modernize your bathroom....and since the vanity is small, 30", it can be had for under 250 dollars....go for it.

Replace the pinkish counter with wood-look Formica or something in cream/almond to match the sink. Put in a blue washable rug as wide as the cabinet, and add art appropriate to your kids' interests, and fresh new towels and shower curtain. It all depends on your budget.

How many kids do you have what are their ages....maybe something colorful

This vanity top is less than $75 from Home Depot.

The light is just under $40

Some pretty towels, new knobs as suggested, and new toilet paper and towel bar.

You can find some fun art for over the toilet for less than $25 at Home Goods and you're all set.

I'd do towel hooks and storage for a kids' bath. Replace vanity... go as wide as you can while still staying within code.

@ Claire, three kids use this bathroom and their ages range from 8-15 so I don't have tub toys or step stools to worry about. I'd like to replace the vanity, but unfortunately, I can't go any larger. Floor really needs to be replaced. I'd like to find a place to store towels. Wainscoting would be nice.

    Hi Lisa Sawyer,

I also attached a link for storage which is a Monaco bath etagere brushed titanium here on Houzz but it doesn’t seem to be working or you can place a cabinet that has open shelves beneath it above the toilet. Is there a way you can post more pics of the bathroom so we can see how big it is.

Also the vanity link that I provided is only 23 1/4” wide how wide is your vanity

What level of diy are you comfortable with? Will you be painting? Changing lights out yourself?

The bathroom is very small 38 inches x 54 inches with a 24 inch vanity. I'm not sure MA Code will allow a larger vanity. I think there needs to be a certain amount of distance between the toilet and the vanity. I agree the vanity should be replaced which snowballs into replacing the flooring. Can you put flooring down on top of linoleum or do I need to rip it up?

Placing flooring on top of flooring has been done so many times I don’t see why you can’t. IMO I wouldn’t do it just saying

Paint the vanity white and just get a new top. Then paint the walls a sunny color like periwinkle blue or apple green. That will go a long way, with a simple new light. Cheer and fresh paint are more important to kids than a framed mirror or the kind of towel hook.

Code says you need 15" from the center of the toilet to any solid object-be it a vanity or a tub. Looks as though you're just about there. You should be able to pull up the old flooring by removing the baseboards and toekick board on the vanity and pulling the toilet. I would replace it with more sheet vinyl. There are a lot of pretty patterns and colors out there now, including some that look like the cement tiles that are so popular. Your bathroom is small enough that you might be able to get away with a remnant and if you're at all handy, you could do this as a diy project by using the old vinyl as a template. You'll need a new wax ring when you put the toilet back down.

Is this bathroom really 3.2’x5.4’ you must have a pocket door or the door pulls out???
