Yes, mirror is all wrong and also a bit too high. A grouping of prints (not just the two you have - perhaps as many as 6), would look great over the sofa. Do you have a fireplace? A mirror over a fireplace can look quite nice.

No fireplace, sadly. What do you think about getting a more modern, tall floor mirror to lean against the wall behind the blue accent chair (that currently has the two prints on it)?

I looked in the Houzz store and found lots of mirrors that may suit you. I can’t get them to copy and paste here, but the selection is awesome, and unlike most Houzz stuff, not too pricey.

I'm afraid the mirror is too traditional for your otherwise very cohesive modern (mid-century?) look. I do think the art above the chair should be hung a little higher. Whatever you put over the couch should be hung lower, and I think a gallery wall of fairly modern art would look cool there, and make a dramatic focal point since you don't have a fireplace. You've done a great job on this room.

I agree with you that the mirror is the odd man out, but what a cool room otherwise. How about buying a relatively cheap placeholder canvas print until the perfect piece comes along? Great big canvas.com has pieces for under $100:

I think these would look fabulous in your room. They're downloads that you can make in a number of sizes and have printed and framed.

You could paint that mirror frame - black, white, a deep teal, or silver and hang it as suggested where the prints are (although they look wonderful there). I don't think the style is necessarily wrong as much as the finish. Try painting it white, leave it where it is hung, but lower it a bit.

I would like something round over your couch. Love the room!

No propped mirrors on floors. First of all, they are dangerous - SO easily knocked over by a guest when there is a crowd, or when cleaning. Second, they look very contrived. A grouping of prints over your sofa would add a lot of interest. Find something you love. Go to art fairs, galleries.

There is NEVER a need for a "place holder" on a wall!!!! One need never apologize for a blank wall - wait and find something that's right and that you love.

Do not--repeat--do NOT buy "wall art" online! That's your Living Room, not a dentist's office. Put something that makes a statement about you and your history or something you love.

I can walk past Rittenhouse Square almost any day and buy a reasonably priced original oil or watercolor painting from an artist who is standing there painting. I bought a watercolor from an artist in Hyde Park while on a trip.

Go to art shows, college student exhibitions, First Friday gallery nights (here in Philly), etc. Wait for something that speaks to you. You'll support a living artist, get a good story, meet new people, and when you have guests visiting, you can have a conversation that doesn't end with "...and they gave me free shipping!"

Oh, and cool room. Except for the coffee table; I'd trip over those splayed legs. Again.

If it were me, I would wait until I came across something I loved. When I was in Montreal I found a piece I could not live without. I bought it on the spot even though it was a bit more than I would have liked to have spent. However, it was worth it!

Art is very personal. Look around at art that goes with your style of living room and then once you find the right piece invest in it.
