Technically no you don't have to. Although this is the type of stuff HVAC guys specialize in and they'll know exactly how to go about doing it correctly. So to answer your question, technically anyone can purchase ducting, registers/diffusers, cut holes, move things around, seal things and perform this work themselves if they feel like they are up to the task.
