Thanks My3dogs. We were going to go with exactly that combination from your picture above, with the Copley Gray, but my husband thinks it'll be too dark. Our house also doesn't have as many features to have the same contrasts as the one pictured above (very famous on Houzz, that's the house that helped me decide to go with that roof).

I read that the general rule is that for exterior paint to go up one shade from what I think looks good in pictures or even as a sample swatch against the house b/c of the outdoor lighting making the color look lighter than would be the case with interior paint, is that correct? We're uncertain if we should do 1) copley gray, 2) rockport gray or 3) gettysburg gray. Thanks again.

I can't speak to the general rule above, but I like the Copley Gray as it has a brown tone to it, and will blend nicely with the brown roof. I pulled the pic from a page that showed best home colors for brown roofs.

Pretty much eliminated Rockport, and leaning away from Gettysburg (one pro says it looks "battleship gray" to her which I looked up and I don't agree as battleship grays tend not to have any greens but just very cool and more blue-tinted, but I can see her point that it's not as warm).

The Copley gray in dusk light from the picture above looks more gray than the brown that's on this swatch. I know that it's all about the lighting. Since we don't have that much trim and other features (brick/stone facade), I just want a color that would look good even when it's the predominant color.

Many years ago, I learned that the way to use neutrals is to mix grey ones with ones that read a bit more yellow. If they're all gray, it's dreary and boring; if they read more yellow, they just look...well, awful and dated - one wonders if there is a Harvest Gold refrigerator in the kitchen.

If I hadn't seen it done in a house I regularly visited, I would never have realized how well this works! It makes all the difference.

So, go with a grayer color for your house - let it contrast a bit with the warmer roof.

Hubby and I talked it over and we think we'll stick to Copley Gray which is still pretty gray but has warmer undertones (and not green ones that to us would read a bit more yellow in daylight, especially in the summer here in Northern Ca) and we figure we'll always second guess ourselves but it's been tried and true (and reproduced) quite a few times after Sicora Design Build shared the colors. Now onto trim colors. Sicora used Elephant Tusk, Arch Studios in the link just above shared that the Shutters are BM Dragon's Breath; Trim is BM White Dove; and Door is BM Caliente. I love the idea of a red door, not sure we're brave enough for that, lol.
