Guest bedroom help

last modified: 9 years ago

I am finally decorating my guest bedroom. Here is what I'm thinking so far (paint, comforter and bed). I need help pulling this together (accent pieces, curtains, night stand, etc). I like contemporary/modern themes. Thank you in advance for any advice given!

I like your color scheme, but I think you can do better on the duvet/bedding. If this is for a guest room, think about making it feel more like a stay at a boutique hotel, with hotel-style sheeting and duvet. Then give it some texture with a fuzzy throw. Restoration hardware would be a good source for this.

I like the colors you've picked, the only thing I'm worried about is that the headboard and your paint are very similar in color. They might blend into one another too much. The light gray color in the bedding pic would work better with that paint (or keep the paint and go for a headboard like the one in the bedding pic). You just need a little contrast!

I agree with Sabrina.... simple bedding with a fluffy faux fur throw.

The paint looks blue in tone and the bed appears true gray. Perhaps a color more as the photo where you show the bedding you like? Then you can add some art.... I too think of making like a pretty boutique comfy hotel room.

A wall color where you bed is the star and not the wall competing with the bed/bedding.

    Hi LLdurhamo3,

A little off topic, but when we're guests in someone's home and we walk in the guest bedroom, hubs instantly looks for a clean flat space next to an outlet for charging his devices, and then looks at me and says "Where should I put all these pillows, am I supposed to put them on the floor?"

Then he needs a free outlet/space for his CPAP next to the bed, unless the whole house wants to hear the equivalence of an 18 wheeler all night.

I agree with Sabrina and Porter on bedding.

Your color schemes are fresh, current and modern, love your choice.

What a beautiful room, your guests are very lucky!

    Something such as:

It’s so important when picking out paint, but especially gray paint, to buy a sample of the paint before committing to a whole gallon, or more. Each gray paint color will look different in your house than it does in someone else's house because of lighting, surrounding decor or even other paint colors in the room. So before committing to a large amount of paint, buy a sample. When you get the sample home don’t just paint it in one little spot in the room, paint a 1′ x 1′ square on every wall in the room you are painting. Check it throughout the day in different lighting. The above is a good color to try if you decide to steer away from a blue tone.

PAPER WHITE 1590 Paper White is a very soft, verrrrrry pale gray. It is so pale that it might even look white in some lights. I think that it’s a better choice for a darker room. Therefore, it’s a good one for a gray for a north facing room. It is actually neither warm nor cool, just a very pale dove-gray and a wonderful choice for anyone wanting to give a pale gray room a go.

or Passive by Sherwin Williams. Sherwin Williams offers quart paint samples which is a great. BM doesn't offer paint samples so perhaps a bad choice for me to toss them at you and suggest them!

It all depends on the room and again most important to paint either on a poster board cut in to 4's and try the color on 4 walls or paint a 1'x1' of colors you choose on to a wall. Behr, SW and a few others offer paint samples.

Either way, not trying to take you away from your blue walls, but don't see it as the best choice for the rich gray bed.

    Good luck to you!

Agree with above about where do I put the several decorative pillows? A large basket close by the bed or a bench at the foot of the bed is a good option for this. Also, empty HANGERS in the closet!!!

You're off to a great start! I love the palette you chose. I guess I would make the bedding more neutral.. crisp white bedding or pale grey then add your accent color with a bed scarf or throw and well chosen decorative pillows. This will play beautifully off the upholstered headboard. It also allows you room to mix it up and keep things gender neutral. If your foundation is neutral you can make quick changes with different colored pillows and throws.

I would also add a luggage bench, that way guests won't be tempted to put their suit case on your new crisp bedding. Don't forget a little lavender rinse for that new bedding, or line dry those sheets and pillow cases both make your guests sleep like a baby!

I always spend time in a space to see what my needs are and go from there. Do you need 2 nightstands? Is there adequate space for two? You get the idea.

I'm excited for you...hope you can post photos of the finished space.

Also I highly recommend adding the furry cat as shown above. This also adds warmth and texture :)

Look at www.Allmodern.com for a bed. I was very happy with my purchase of an platform bed with cream/off white padded headboard.
