New Utility Room

After you featured my winter clothes drying solution last January, I realized just what bad shape my laundry room was in. The cabinets were old and rusty, there was a leak under the sink, the plaster had cracked and started flaking on many of the walls. Also, the pantry (originally a broom closet) had a deep back that was difficult to access, and there was very little light.

I called a woodworker and he came and discussed cabinet plans with me. He also recommended a general contractor to do the repair work and painting.

The cabinets were removed, the pantry/broom closet was demolished, and the sink was removed and the plumbing capped off. The walls and floors were repaired and painted, the tile was patched where the wall had been removed and new lighting was installed. They also put in a surround for the washer and dryer connections.

Cabinets were put in above the washer and dryer where the shelving had been. A square broom closet accessible from two sides was installed. The cabinet maker added a large pantry cabinet, base cabinets, a wooden counter, open shelving and a drying rod. Because the room is still small, the drying rod is right in front of the open shelves, but it works.
