I would not use the medallion rug for the living area. The two flower prints (chair and rug) now are okay together (small and big print), but the rug in the link is too busy for the floral chair(s). And I think the coffee table looks off with the side tables and the hearth rack, so does the pacific orange artwork. See if you can find a piece of fabric from the chair to make some pillows to place on the sofa. And maybe you can paint the wall behind the floral chairs red like the sofa. Could you spray paint the hearth rack bronze?

All and all I see little coherence in your room, all types of styles and colors. I personally would start out with all new (or second hand) seating, that matches together better. I guess it's the red sofa that's off, especially since you're thinking about adding a second floral chair.. A chocolate brown, burnt orange or straw-linen would bring more balance.

Ringreation: Hope I haven't screwed up again...hubby ordered the rug already. Guess I'll wait to see how the rug looks in reality. The chair and loveseat are new and although it doesn't show well in the picture, there is red in the floral chair. Someone else mentioned painting the fireplace screen; it is on our "to do" list. The coffee table works for now size-wise, but is not necessarily a permanent fixture. I thought a 2nd floral chair would help eliminate excess pattern; I haven't purchased it yet, though. I recently finished the orange wall quilt and hung it in the living room to enjoy, but it will be moved once we have the room together enough to start thinking about real art work. The rug pictured is a little too small for the area. Should be at least a foot wider so that both chairs' front legs sit on it. It seems as if there is an overabundance of iron in the room. Remove some of it, either the table between the chairs, the mirror, or the firescreen. The lamp doesn't work; try a more traditional table lamp for reading when sitting in the chairs.

Colonialgp: The rug shown in the pictures above is 6' wide; the new rug ordered is 7 1/2'. The mirror is actually antique Chinese made out of wood, not iron. Not pictured is a 48" antique buffet which is on the wall opposite the fireplace, so I believe the room is balanced between metal and wood. You are correct about the floor lamp. I fell in love with its style and paid a stupidly expensive price for it, only to have it be much too bright. We live on an island and 99% of our purchases are made via the internet, site unseen. I have purchased many items that ended up not being what was represented on the website, but the cost to return the items (after having paid a fortune to get them here), has meant that I am "settling" for some items.
