Sofa brand that will keep its shape: Please help

I'm looking to replace two 16 year old EJ Victor sofas. Great frame but cushions are beginning to show their wear. I am looking to purchase a sectional that will hold up to a rambunctious family of grandkids and pets. My kids allow their dogs on sofas and it's been a struggle to keep them off mine. It's just not working and I don't want to police the family.

My criteria has been to find similar build quality to EJV, a crypton fabric (otherwise I'm getting plastic slip covers for when they visit:) Comfort cushions that don't bunch, wrinkle and lose their shape. Fabric that doesn't pill! Bottom line budget including tax and delivery about $8k but would reluctantly go higher if I'm being unrealistic.

I've ruled out various companies due to sloppy look in the stores. I'm sorry if I offend anyone but Lee, CR Laine, Bernhardt, Stickley seem to have issues in the showroom. Wrinkly fabric, cushions popping up and fear they will not hold up to my usage.

I like a comfortable tailored look that doesn't require a lot of plumping. I've been told that the firmer cushions and thick tight fabric will alleviate this. I can't understand this. I have pieces of upholstery in my home that are 16 - 20 years old and do not do this. I have a Century chair that is 23 years old and still holds its shape in a chenille fabric. I have washed my EJV cushion covers in my front loader with no issues at all.

I can't find a lot of reviews on additional companies I'm considering and would like to ask for some insight on the brands.

I plan on looking into Century, Taylor King, Wesley Hall, Huntington House, and Vanguard. I already know I can't afford a Century sectional in my size requirements but can swing two sofas instead. I really like the feel of Century spring down cushions.

Out of the brands mentioned which is the best choice for my budget and use keeping in mind that I need to carefully select my fabric?

I have a long history of furniture purchases being a grandparent and know they don't make things like they used to which makes this decision very difficult. Hope someone can help.

I am wondering if anyone would know of a sofa that is similar to the Thomasville Portofino. I liked the deep seating and it had performed very well in our family room. The sofa offered great comfort in a formal family room, and had deep seating with a great height (not low to the floor)

Not sure what showroom problems you had with Stickley - did you look at the Selectional line and in particular either the 200 series or the 7000 series? This stuff is custom-made, very well-built and quite flexible in terms of pieces, how back cushions finished, feet, fabrics, etc. And they are really into customer service so if you were to have problems I think they'd address it.

here's a link to the 100-500 Series catalog - no catalog online yet for the 7000 series but other than the fact that the depth can also be varied, pretty similar to the 200 Series (well, the seat cushions are slightly deeper/thicker on the 200 Series).

Stickley didn't have a fabric that worked for my color palette or I would revisit.

Thanks for replying. I can't believe the prices I am getting! And, to top it off I don't think the fabrics are going to hold up. Everything is Polyester and some sales people say it will pill so use a de-piller and others say no it won't. I am going to invest $8-$11k on a sofa that pills?

So in my area here are the sectionals I've investigated:

C.R. Laine : best price point at half the cost of others

Lee Industries

Huntington House:

*Vanguard

*Taylor King

*Century

Basically all the same price point with 10K investment.

I feel like the CR Laine is the sensible option. If it stays looking good for 10 years I'd be happy at that price point but I'm not sure they have cushions and fabric that will stand the test of time.

Oh, a local shop asked me if I was using them as a library! Is there a law against shopping quality and price?

Thanks for the replies. I looked into Smith Brothers and I'm not crazy about the arm styles but will certainly take another look because I hear good things.

Would someone correct my thinking on this point?

I opened the Stickley link. Thank you. Very beautiful. But when you look at the cushions fronts you see this ripple effect. This drives me batty. I don't own anything in my house that does that. Am I going to have to just live with rippled cushions?

I don't have a suggestion about new sofas but any dog can be taught boundaries. Growing up my dog went everywhere in our home but was only allowed in the entry that was also the dining room of my grandparents home. She laid at the entry to the living room and never crossed. My dogs aren't allowed on the furniture at all. I can't imagine letting them have the run of the house at my moms. She knows if she wants to see us the dogs are a part of that. But they do have boundaries. New furniture... new rules...
