Reverse Tumble Drying

I have been all set to buy my Speed Queen set when we arrive in Texas in about two weeks. But then I read something in a post here about the Miele dryer, and it got me to thinking that maybe instead of the SQ dryer, I should look for a dryer that has reverse tumble. I do not want a Miele, but are there any other brands with a large capacity that offer that? I tried looking on the Sears sight but got frustrated.

Some if not all the early GE’s with reverse tumble are no longer made. Hopefully new ones have been added, but I fear not. Also check F&P. They used to offer it. Reverse tumble is an under appreciated feature that will seriously lessen your ironing. My SQ tangles sheets terribly. To reduce drying time, you need to open the dryer halfway through and pull the knot apart. Today my shams got wadded up inside the sheet. It was a mess.

I happened to check F&P's website a couple days ago and the TOL dryer's user guide no longer references reverse tumble. Maybe the GE model on which it's based also dropped the feature.

This is disappointing. I guess my only alternative is a Miele Little Giant but I just hate to pay $1500 or more for a dryer. Then there is my partner who is resisting having the washer and dryer not match. With him it is style over substance when it comes to such things as cars and appliances. I guess I will price The Miele and find out its availability. I am not keen on GE anymore. I once had a GE set that was great, but those times are gone I am afraid. You are scarring me MizLizzie. I was all set to get the TOL SQ dryer.

GE does still offer detangle on the top models. Just check website if interested.

Thanks Sparky. I checked the GE website. It had a video that directly addressed tangled bedding. It would probably work well enough. The dryers that have that feature are large enough, but they are priced as high as the SQ. Dryers tend to last longer than washers and if I got 12 years out of it I would be happy. I priced the Miele and man I should have paid more attention to what I have read here. $4000 for the Little Giant. Gulp! The only normal model they are offering is the one condenser model. It is too small for our needs, so I guess I am going to have to consider the GE versus the SQ.

Don’t be AFRAID of Speed Queen. Just be AWARE. Compared to Miele, it has limitations — at about half the price, one should add. Other than Miele, there is nothing I have seen yet that I would trade it for, I don’t believe, unless it would be a set of Whirlpools with allergen and sanitize settings. I would love to have that on board heater. And my SQ washer slops water into the LFS compartment, a problem which, I gather from other posts here, is a well-known issue with no known resolution. But the thing is built like a tank, takes up minimal space, and I am overall quite pleased with it. I would also add that if you wash queen bedding rather than king, the tangling will not be quite so annoying. My queen sheets go through much more tidily.

    Armjim...

If you can find an older model Electrolux (Wave Touch 70 series) or (IQ Touch 60 series) you may be happy with that.

I have the 70 series that has the reverse tumble towards the end of the cycle and during the anti wrinkle portion of the cycle.

ArmJim ... just to say, F&P topload (reversing) dryers can sometimes be found on the used market, resale shops, CraigsList. I saw a couple some months ago via CraigsList at a resale shop in San Antonio. Depends on whether you'd want to hazard with that, and of course it wouldn't match a SQ washer.
