Update my deck!

I would like to update the look of my deck. The deck is covered with waterproof vinyl deck covering that is glued onto the deck. My guess is that the previous owners did this because they wanted to waterproof the deck for easier maintenance.

However, I just think it looks ugly. The stains in these pictures are from some potted plants that were on the deck as well as one area near the railing that pools water whenever it rains. I don't know how old this deck is but I am guessing that it is around 10-15 years old.

I believe that I can probably scrub out the brown stains using some soap and a brush.

But I'd prefer to actually make this deck look nice. Can I put some wood planks or stone or something like that on top of this vinyl? Or should I peel off the vinyl and see what's underneath and try to revitalize that? I don't know what's underneath but I'm guessing / hoping that it's wood? There is nothing underneath this deck (it isn't over a garage or rooms, etc.). I would also need to do something about the pooling water (maybe add some more slope somehow to get the water to fall off the deck.
