"Thai Red" Sorrel (roselle)

I know its not a true fruit, but it's attached to the fruit and treated/used as fruit.

It Florida it is called "Florida cranberry."

I grew it years ago in central South Carolina and while it ripened it was touch and go with first killing frost.

The "Thai Red" selection is now purported by some to ripen earlier (successful even in coastal Virginia) but this is discounted by others.

I see some "TR" now in a community garden in central SC fully ripe ~3 weeks before average first frost.
